by K. Violet
In the crib lies a boy,
breathing, but not seeing,
breathing borrowed time,
borrowed from the machine,
the hearts,
the souls,
the love
that envelopes his body.

It is from above and beside,
and all around,
that energy,
that bouying safety net,
like prayers stiched together into
netted gloves meant to protect.

Although we look with open eyes
we cannot see it,
the crib rocks,
the child is comforted,
in communion with God
in his silent closet,
in his shadowed garden.

Weep not for Shiloh.
He is near us.
