The day before Thanksgiving, Al, Tipper and Karenna Gore spent the day helping to deliver Thanksgiving dinners to Washington D.C.'s poorest citizens.
I was going to write a nice, holiday piece about... something, I can’t even remember any more. I’m that mad. I apologize in advance. I keep trying to get to a point where I can write something funny like "Governor Bush’s Great Big Picture Book Of Jeb Is So Totally On Daddy’s List, Big Time", and every time I think I’ve gotten to a place where I can laugh at Smirk again, I find out something else that sends me right back to seething rage.

I have been trying very hard to see the GOP’s side to this Florida mess. Not just because my President, Al Gore (D-The Better Angel Of Our Nature) has asked me to. Because, as a Democrat, I do that kind of stuff reflexively. Am I wrong? Am I letting my emotions run away with my judgment? Does the other side have a valid point? After all, the rank and file GOP are not Smirk. The rank and file are the people that need to be won over in 2002, to take the House back. The rank and file are the people that need to be won over in 2004, to give us More Gore in 0-4.

And, as much as it may make me look like a flaming hypocrite, I must admit I didn’t go to last Saturday’s protest. I had gone to the first one, and stayed about four hours, until most of the other folks were leaving, but I didn’t feel like protesting last Saturday. Most of the important court cases had gone our way, and I don’t believe in scrapping the Electoral College retroactively just so Al can win. (I have said this before, and quite often too: I don’t think we can get rid of the Electoral College before we have meaningful campaign finance reform. Forcing the candidates to win 51% of the whole country instead of 51% of 30% of the country just means that the person with the most soft money ads will win. Just try to beat Smirk or some other oil company stooge under those conditions.) And there weren’t that many pro-Smirk protesters the first Saturday - - just three - - and most of the traffic was for us. Yep, I felt pretty okay with things last Saturday.

Since then however, I have been getting more and more worried. To tell you the truth, I have been trying to get emotionally prepared for the moment that Al concedes. The recount news hasn’t looked that good, and although the law suits will continue well past Sunday, I have been worried about Gore’s political future. I look at CNN and see these young, clean-shaven, Aryan pure Bush protesters filling the camera lens, starting a "near riot" in Miami Dade just before their county canvassing board decides to do a 180 degree turn and not do a hand recount at all (hmm... don’t suppose there’s a cause/effect thing happening there, do you?), screaming and shouting and clogging up the wire photos... and I think "My God. Al Gore is really hated by the rank and file GOP. Maybe he better quit now, before he destroys any chance of running again in 2004. We’ll need him worse than ever after Bush screws up for four years straight."

But then I was surfing through Bartcop’s letter column and ran across this letter (which I lifted without the author or Bartcop’s permission, because it’s the GD Internet):

I drove by the Federal Building in Los Angeles on Saturday and was shocked to see over 300 Nazis demonstrating at the "Gore" Rally. There were Probably less than 100 Democrats there, so I decided to stop and help the good guys.

It turns out that the Repugs were bussed in by the NRA and other hate groups (presumably in Ryder trucks) and may have been paid to attend, because at 3:00 pm sharp they folded up their sheets and disappeared.

The Dems stayed until 5:00 pm and, based on the honks from the passing cars, had most of the public support (although it was fun to watch the drivers of beat up pick-up trucks flipping us off). Nonetheless, it was pretty disheartening to see how well-organized the GOPropaganda machine is...especially in liberal Los Angeles.

Guess what’s happening in Florida?

My guess? That is not the GOP running amok in the streets. It is the fucking Rent-a-Photo-Op-Nazis. Need to intimidate the moderate Democrats? Dial 1-800-FASCISTUPRISING. For a slight additional charge, we will physically assault any members of the Democratic Party Leadership stupid enough to appear on the scene. Ask about our Krystal Nacht specials!

In a previous life, these bastards were Pinkerton guards, busting unions and shooting anybody that didn’t stay busted.

I can’t believe I fell for it. Especially since I have seen these Rent-a-Photo-Op-Nazis before. Live. And in person.

Earlier, during the SAG/AFTRA strike, I saw a very vocal, very animated group of picketers outside my soul destroying day job. And the media was there, covering them - - big time. Since there are several ad agencies in the same building who had been picketed by the actors before, I thought it was SAG/AFTRA again. I also thought: "Wow. The actors don’t usually get this angry. What’s happened?" I mean, these guys looked like they were gonna hurt somebody. BAD. So after I got to my office and dumped my stuff, I went back downstairs to check out the picket, to see what was causing all this emotion.

But they were gone. Every single last one of them.

It couldn’t have been than five minutes since I’d seen them, if that. But there wasn’t a sign of the protesters. I asked one of the security guards what had happened. She clicked her tongue in disgust and said "They left right after the cameras did."

They were fucking Rent-A-Photo-Op-Nazis. And that’s what’s happening in Florida right now. You turn on the TV and see all these clean shaven, Aryan youths screaming their heads off and threatening to kill the Miami Dade canvassing board and you are MEANT to think "My God. Al Gore is really hated by the rank and file GOP. Maybe he better quit now, before he destroys any chance of running in 2004."

Instead of feeding the homeless, Smirk went fishing.
I was talking to my sister - - who I never mention in the Daily Flapdoodle because she is so much smarter and funnier than I am and I am worried sick she will start her own satirical anti-GOP site and blow me out of the water, there, are you happy now that you’ve been mentioned? ;) - - about this earlier tonight, and I have never hated any of the GOP’s Presidential candidates before. Not even Reagan. I’m not saying Ronny Raygun wasn’t evil. I’m saying I could always get to a place where I could laugh at him - - or "hate the sin and love the sinner", that kind of thing.

I can’t do that with Smirk anymore. I hate him. I absolutely hate him for what he’s doing to our country. I hate him for the way he’s cheapened the Presidency. I hate him for the way he lies through his teeth 24/7 and never gets caught and never, ever, apologizes. (LIKE SMIRK DIDN’T KNOW DICK CHENEY HAD A HEART ATTACK!!! WHAT, DID HIS DOCTORS NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF OPERATION THEY PERFORMED?!?) I hate him for only caring about appearances and photo ops and oil slick ads while us Real People have been knocking ourselves out doing the grassroots thing, trying to get America to the polls. I hate him for fixing the God damn Florida election and smothering the votes of African Americans and Holocaust survivors and World War Two Veterans just when history was proving that every vote does indeed count. I hate him for being dumb as a post and willing to go along with any evil scheme that will line his own pockets. I hate him, his father, his brother, his fascist cousin John Ellis at Fox, Katherine Harris, Richard Cheney, Karl Rove, Karen Hughes, Condi Rice, Bob Dole, Orrin Hatch and anybody else who joins Smirk’s little gravy train. I hate him for being a hypocritical, lying pig who thinks the rules don’t apply to him. I hate him for being a gutless, two faced, narrow minded TRAITOR who won’t even consider meeting with Al Gore and asking everybody to calm down, because trying to stop a civil war might make Smirk look like he’s not Mr. AlphaMale 2000. I hate him, hate him, hate him for what his propaganda machine has done to Al Gore, probably the best, most decent, most accomplished man in American politics in a generation, if not longer.
