ABOUT...
Even at
a very young age,
Rachel Langley could be found hammering away at her portable blue
typewriter, weaving stories from her everyday existence as a
worldly (but homely) eight-year-old girl. An overwhelming desire to
express the ramblings of her small noodle were not limited to the
page, but were also made apparent with play acting, music and
painting. As the years passed, Rachel’s equally imaginative mother
contributed and fed her daughter’s imagination by exposing her to
shows such as Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and Night Gallery along
with the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. This background is evident in
many of Rachel’s current fictional works, from supernatural twists
to character’s living dual fantasy lives, there is never a limit
to where one of her stories (or characters) may go. Additionally,
Rachel finds herself drawn to writing about the human condition and
how haphazard encounters can alter and change a person’s path or
fate. Examples of this can be seen in the short
film she wrote titled “Six Tulips” which was produced as a 35mm
short, made appearances in numerous festivals and was given a four
star review on Filmthreat.com. To date, Rachel has written
nearly twenty short screenplays, almost half of which have been
successfully produced. Her stage works include the one act
"Meeting Zelda Zonk" and was a co-writer for the sketch
comedy show "Birdcage”. Award winning scripts produced
include the short "Meeting Nightshade" which won Best
Direction, received First Runner-Up in the Midnight Madness Film
Competition and was selected for screening at the NYU Cantor Film
Center.
In 2005 her short script "Inside David Cane" placed 1st Runner-Up in her subject heat in the Midnight Madness Screenwriting Competition and went to the final round of competition. In 2006, the play Twinkle, Twinkle, based on the last interview with Marilyn Monroe was presented in a staged reading. In the summer of 2007, Rachel's play "The Life Adventures of Freda Gleason" was produced by Theatre Studio Inc. and directed by Holly Davatz. That same summer her one act play "Love Cafe" was part of the Red Light Night at the Slipper Room. In December of '07 Rachel performed a monologue from her piece "Pretty Little Mess" at the Wonder Woman Festival produced by Groove Mama. In 2008, Rachel's script for her one woman show "80's Girl: Meet the Girl Who Can't Let Go" was accepted into the Emerging Artists Theatre's "One Woman Standing" Solo Festival. She is currently working on her latest night of one acts "The V in loVe: Subway Stories of Passion, Rage & Heartache"
