Glossary of Terms Benefits Benefits and necessities are results of a system built on respect and responsibility. Benefits are specifically defined as the beneficial results of our responsible actions. Take the example of responsible use of cars which may result in the benefits of clean air or street safety. Better world, a... A better world is an idea and a belief that there is something better than what we have today. (more...) Better world for all, a... A better world for all is a movement that is inclusive to every individual on the basis of our common needs. The movement strives to raise awareness to those common goals of humankind. Culture of wisdom A culture of wisdom includes all people that desire a better world and are ready to join the movement towards it. It identifies us as a community in terms of our creations of art, literature, music, philosophy and technology. It inspires us and ensures that we enjoy the movement and have fun on the journey. (more...) Environment The claim has been made that 'Environmentalism is dead'. If it is then the sustainable movement is its successor. People are looking for a more holistic approach to integrating their responsibilities into their lives. In the context of this web page the expression of the environment is used to describe the world around us that we derive all our basic needs from. It is a general term to describe the human built environment and the natural environment. It refers to our immediate environment, the local environment, the regional environment and, ultimately, the world as an environment for humankind. Freedom There's a story about a man walking down the street and feeling so free that he goes and punches a fella in the nose. Clambering back to his feet the stranger asks "Why did you do that?". He claims that "It's a free world, he can do what he likes". The stranger wiping the blood from his nose replies "It may be a free world but your freedom stops where my nose begins". Realise hopes to bring attention to the differences between irresponsible 'mindless' freedom (where human rights are non existent and relationships within humankind are degraded) and responsible 'wise' freedom (where human rights are respected and relationships are strengthened). Freedom itself is about being or existence without restraint. Realise proposes that in a perfectly responsible society, where peeps did not even consider being irresponsible, freedom would naturally occur. Any moves we make towards responsible freedom is a move to a better world. Humankind By the term 'humankind' we refer to the human species. It includes all our history and evolution, all our insticnts, our behaviour and all our needs as creatures on the earth. Fundamentally it includes our needs for survival as a species and all our instincts that make us the most successful animal on the planet. Humankind continues to evolve and we believe that it is the 'next step' in our progression to evolve towards a better world. Inclusive Individuals Every individual was put on the Earth to make it a better place (weather they like it or not). It could very well be the meaning of life. When we refer to the individual we consider every member of the human race. In most instances on this website we consider this to be you. The focus of Realise is on the individual and the most one person can do at this, the present, with current resources and knowledge available to them. No one can do more than their best to bring about a better world for all. As individuals unite and strive for a better world it will become easier to make a difference. Necessities Necessities and benefits are results of a system built on respect and responsibility. Necessities relate more directly to our needs as individuals that are critical to our immediate survival. Some examples of basic individual needs are air, water, food, sleep, shelter. Personal responsibility It is vital that individuals recognise the responsibility to/for themselves or 'personal responsibility'. Personal responsibility refers to having realistic expectations for yourself in terms of how much time, energy and motivation you have for making a difference in your own life. Personal responsibility is a part of the responsibility or obligations we have as individuals. The responsibility we show ourselves reflects in how mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy we are as individuals. In essence it is the need for an individual to respect themself in order for society to respect the individual. Pro-activism Realise raises awareness to the individual's role in the transition to a better world for all by suggesting positive solutions. Progress Realise redefines progress as that which assists in the progression of humankind to the next level of consciousness. Simply, it is the survival and the prosperity of the species towards a better world for all. Responsibility Realise believes that humankind and all its relationships are (and have been throughout evolution), held together by responsible actions. Responsibility therefore is a vital ingredient in the continuation of humankind. There are 4 levels of responsibility: |

Mindless freedom/irresponsibility; lacks all consideration everything except for the individual's own immediate wants and needs. Imposed responsibility; responsibility through force or threatened by punishment being imposed. This includes actions only taken to comply with laws, rules and for pay (money). Localised responsibility; responsible decisions based only on what is beneficial to a community or a number of communities. Inclusive responsibility; Includes all individuals, communities, society and the environment. Responsibility in a context that is good for humankind. Responsible freedom; considering one's own well-being in context with all other people in society (including ancestors or future generations) and the worlds environment (human made built and natural environments). All individuals will range up and down the scale from time to time. It's much too hard to achieve overnight but with patients and a gradual inter-generational transition to it, we believe it is something worth striving for. The word could also be substituted by the words 'sense of duty' or 'obligation'. Responsibility is necessary together with knowledge and experience in making wise decisions. (more...) Society "Society has created us as individuals through thousands of generations of its continuous life." (Lloyd Geering, 1998). In this context 'society' really encompasses humankind, its past, present and future. It includes all of society's tools for maintaining it such as government, economy, law and culture. Struggle, the... Also known as the transition to... the movement towards... or striving towards a better world. The struggle is about the journey to something that's better than what we have at the present. It is about the journey towards humankind's survival. It is a struggle because it will not necessarily be easy. Support The group intends to set up avenues of assistance for the individual in their struggle towards a better world. This assistence will be in the form of encouragement, goal setting, goal achieving, moral support, ideas and inspiration. Realise supports and encourages anyone who strives towards a better world. Sustainability Sustainability is the ongoing survivability of humankind for as many generations as we have had ancestors. Sustainability movement The sustainability movement is about the transition to sustainability, moving towards a more secure future and building a better world for all. (more...) Unity When we talk about unity we talk about bringing people together that want to make the world a better place it is about speaking with a single deafening voice and standing for what we believe. Unity is about supporting the individuals and groups that are moving towards a better world and raising awareness to others. |
