Jazz In The Afternoons

Did you know American High has a jazz ensemble? Since the beginning of the 1997-1998 school year, students have been spending hours afterschool learning how to play jazz music, how to improvise, and how to have a great time playing America's modern music. They not only made their debut at the Pops Concert in the spring of 1998, but played for the spring musical, City of Angels, as well. In 2005, there were enough members to split the class into 2 groups.

Be sure to watch for them in upcoming concerts at school.

American High Pops Concert
Thur. Evening - after a dinner served by choir and band members, the audience will be treated to a concert by the choir and the bands. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

School Musical
Members of the jazz ensemble will perform as the pit orchestra. Performances are listed on the April and May calendars.

Disneyland Music in the Parks Festival
In the Spring of 2008, the jazz ensemble will travel to Anaheim for the Music in the Parks Festival.

Final Concert & Awards
Thur. 7:30 P.M. - the final concert of the year will feature the choir and the bands. Awards and Block letters will be presented for outstanding students. Admission is free.

FUSD Jazz Festival
Sat. Day - the jazz ensemble will perform at the Fremont Hub Jazz Festival.

Jazz Ensemble is an advanced music course and students will be exposed to ear training and music theory needed in order to become better musicians. This course is not for the faint of heart.
