~ This Is My Tune For The Taking ~

"Alright class'll end here for today. Any questions?"Sensei asks. Kae reaches over to remove his glasses as she leans in for a kiss "None."she replies. We see a disgruntled looking Kae, who's 11, heading for her 1st piano lesson with her sister(Nae)."I don't want to learn to play the piano."she mutters. Nae tells her their mother hopes that she'd be more ladylike, afterall, she's such a tomboy, getting into fights with guys. And Kae (with a bandaid on her cheek) mumbles that it's because he took her eraser.^_^ Nae says, anyway, just give it a try, something good might come out of it!

They meet Uchida at the reception and Kae peeks into the piano room whilst Nae is talking to Uchida, and spots a pair of hands at the piano. Uchida shows Kae into the room and Sensei greets her, asking if it's her first time learning to play the piano. "That's when it all began....." That evening at dinner, Nae and their mother are raving about Kae's teacher who's a real handsome university student, teaching part-time. And Kae's dad wonders why she's got even more injuries after starting piano class?! She'd been hiding under the piano, refusing to start her lessons. ^_^ Dad wonders what's with Kae whilst she stares at his hands, and asks her about it. She blushes and says that it's nothing. That night, Kae lies in bed thinking about the beautiful pair of hands she saw at the piano.

"Gently, more gently....GENTLY play lightly, why are you banging away with such violence?!"says an irritated Sensei. "I can't differentiate my light and heavy tones yet."replies Kae. "Well... learn to differentiate before you wreck the piano!" ^_^ Kae is now boiling mad "I can't believe that such a bad tempered piano teacher actually exists on this earth!". Sensei replies "It's more of a first for me, to have a student who plays with the vengence of killing her father's murderer." Kae glares at him with a popped vein ^_^; "But this song is really boring." she says. "It's only got Do Re Mi in it." Sensei leans over and plays along with her as he cues her in. And she enjoys it! "That was great, it was so fun, it became a song!" Sensei smirks as he says "yup, that's right, it should be fun." "Ahh... I fell for his it!"Kae's back to her popped-vein mode.

The shop manager and Uchida laugh as Kae relates to them about Sensei's treachery. "That's right, he's always so merciless with his remarks."laughs Uchida. The shop manager asks Kae if she's had the chance to hear Sensei perform, and says that if she does, she'd be shocked. Kae laughs to herself, thinking that he'd be terrible and he'd scare the customers away. Just as she's leaving the school with Nae, she hears someone playing the piano from the classroom and she runs back into the school. "It's Canon, played so beautifully. No... it can't be...!" she peeks into the room and sees Sensei at the piano. She's stunned and stands at the door blushing.

Back to the present - Sensei asks Kae if she's decided on the piece she's going to play for the performance, and she says she wants to play Canon. "By Pachelbel?"confirms Sensei. "That's so unexpected." "Well, that's a piece I like."says Kae defensively. "I guess it's fine, as long as you're able to play it."smirks Sensei ^_^ deliberately putting Kae into popped-vein mode. "If you start practicing right now..." He doesn't get to finish his remark as Kae flings the piano's cloth covering at him. They start wrestling about and their arguement can be heard from outside by the shop manager and Uchida, who are wondering what on earth is going on in there!? Kae trips on the cloth covering and grabs onto Sensei's arm as he steadies her. "Serves you right! Are you trying to ram your head into the piano again? I can't leave you alone for a minute!"says Sensei. He smiles as she reaches out to hug him, then removes the cigarette from his mouth and leans in for a kiss. "In this past 5 years, I've learned that he plays soulful music at the piano; he's a mega chain-smoker and what a skilled kisser he is."thinks Kae.

Sensei receives a postcard at the music school and he says that it's from his cousin. Kae realises that he hardly mentions about his family and the shop manager is surprised that she isn't aware that his only kin is his brother, as his parents died in an accident. Kae is upset that she hardly knows anything about Sensei's personal life and so she's silent during the drive home. Sensei asks her if she's feeling carsick again, or did she spill some juice on the shop's piano, or did she fail some exam at school?(there were past incidents) Since she's so abnormally silent. And she gets even more irritated "you sure know all about my life huh?" she silently stares out the window."I'm such a failure, I'm just a kid afterall."Kae dismays. She glances back at him, wondering if he's mad at her, and to her surprise finds him chuckling. He asks her what she wants for dinner and she disgruntledly replies, sushi. "Adults are indeed difficult to handle."she thinks.

Uchida and the shop manager have a good laugh as they agree with Kae that it sounds just like Sensei. He just isn't the kind to reveal his true feelings. And Kae laughingly adds, that means, he's plain stubborn. "Just once...! To be able to catch his weakness, I'd like to see him loose his cool for once!"cries the shop manager.

A new character enters the shop looking for Goshima Masayuki, and Kae studies this person whilst Uchida looks for Sensei. The new comer smiles at Kae and reaches for a pack of cigarettes. (Wow.. what a cool person, reminds me of someone..... that's right, the air about this person and the mannerisms are exactly like Sensei's!) The person reaches up to remove the baseball cap and Kae realises that it's actually a woman! Sensei greets her by saying "It's been awhile! I see you're still alive and kicking huh?" as he leans over to light her cigarette with his. (What kind of a greeting is that?) Kae wonders.

~ My World Revolves Around This Person ~

They find out that the lady is Sensei's cousin(Goshima Tamaki) and with both of them standing together, they are Really attracting attention. She notices Kae and asks Sensei if she's a student. Sensei tells Kae to come over for an introduction, and Kae nervously says hello. Tamaki is all smiles as she exclaims that Kae is soooo cute! She proceeds to ask her which school she's studying at and even offers to give her spending money ^_^; The shop manager remarks that she's indeed a blood relation to Sensei, and Sensei demands to know what he means by that. They find out from Tamaki that Sensei is performing at a club that evening and get all excited, much to Sensei's annoyance. Kae insists on going, so all Sensei says is, "no alcohol for you." So she's real happy! Tamaki seems surprised as she looks on at the both of them.

Kae asks Tamaki what Sensei used to be like, and she tells them that he was a model student. To which Uchida and the shop manager go "No way!!" Doesn't he enjoy being a bully?asks the shop manager. Tamaki says that he was smart, mature and very sincere, though the death of his parents made him indifferent to everything, deep down inside, he's still the same. Kae thinks to herself (I can't believe that I'd mistaken her for a guy, she's a 100% mature woman.) as she studies her whilst they're at the club. Sensei plays "Cry Baby by Janis Joplin" and mesmerises the crowd, after which he seems to be awaiting someone. Tamaki appears with a saxophone and joins him, thrilling the audience. Kae seems to be overwhelmed by Tamaki and her chemistry with Sensei.

Sensei notices that Kae isn't in her seat when he returns to the table and Uchida tells him that she went out for a breath of fresh air as she was feeling a little dizzy. The shop manager wonders if it's safe, as Sensei reaches for his coat saying he needs to buy some cigarettes. A smirking shop manager hastily waves him off saying "yes, yes, go buy your cigarettes!!". Why can't he just say that he wants to look for Kae?he remarks. Uchida replies that it's Sensei's style.Sensei spots Kae sitting at a bench and lectures her for loitering in a park alone at night. "Don't worry, I'm not a kid!"Kae replies. "Don't make me worry about everything!he sighs.... it's precisely bcos you're not a kid that it's dangerous." Kae hugs him.

The next day, Kae is down with a flu as she tells Uchida and the shop manager that she actually fell asleep for awhile at the park whilst with Sensei the night before. And the shop manager has a dark shadow hanging over his face as he wonders if Sensei did anything to Kae.^_^ Tamaki chuckles as she observes Kae listlessly playing the piano. She says that though Kae has been learning for 5 years, there hasn't been much improvement right? She says the blame must be Sensei's. Tamaki notices that Kae's practicing the musicscore for Canon and that it's one of Sensei's favoured pieces. She asks Kae if she likes Sensei, as Kae stares back at her in surprised silence, Tamaki wrestles her down on the floor, asking her if she and Sensei have kissed like that before. Kae looks back at her, stunned. Tamaki smiles and says that she's just kidding, did she scare her? it was just a joke.

Uchida passes Kae some musicscores to deliver to Sensei whilst she sits in a daze. The shop manager and Uchida notice that she hasn't been herself since the day before, and they think that aside from her flu, it must have something to do with Sensei. Meanwhile, in the music room, Tamaki tells Sensei that Kae looks lovely - very much like a doll. "As she's too lovely, I couldn't resist wrestling her down on the floor (Sensei drops his cigarette) she was so stunned, she just stared at me in silence." Sensei tells Tamaki to leave Kae alone, saying that her emotions were already unstable lately. Tamaki asks him if he intends to wait for Kae to grow up, and since when was he such a patient guy? She teasingly leans over for a kiss, and just then, Kae arrives at the door to deliver the manuscripts. She flings them in his face as she looks at him accusingly with tears in her eyes. She turns around and leaves, ignoring him as he calls her name. "Oops... she's misunderstood, what are you going to do about it?"Tamaki grins. Sensei is in pop-veined mode now ^_^

~ I Can Feel My Temperature Gradually Rising ~

Kae is down with a high fever and can't make it for her piano lesson. Sensei stops by her house after work and finds her in bed when he enters her room. "Kae? Are you asleep?" He's surprised by Kae when she suddenly lunges for him and flips him down onto her bed, kissing him. "You'd better be infected by the flu bug too! I'll kill you if you infect Tamaki. I'll definitely kill you!!"she sobs as she straddles him. "You're a dangerous person...." Sensei says as he reaches up to wipe away her tears as they splash on him. Nae is taken aback when she enters the room later to find Sensei affectionately wiping Kae's brow as she sleeps. Kae has a nightmare, dreaming that she's all alone whilst she's crying out for Sensei to stay by her side and wakes up in tears.She asks Nae if Sensei stopped by, or was it a dream? Nae tells her she's real lucky to have a grown up for a boyfriend. Kae disagrees, she feels that Sensei's affection towards her is no different from how one would love a little kitty cat. She feels that she can't match up to Tamaki but Nae tells her that Kae has her own personality and there's no need for any comparison.

The next day, the shop manager and Uchida remark that the timing of Sensei's flu is mighty suspicious, did he get if from someone else down with flu? ^_^ Sensei spots Kae walking in and she smiles when she sees him coughing. "Caught the flu bug have you? Serves you right!". Sensei asks if she's still mad, and she says, yes! "You're wrong if you think that you can simply cajole me into forgiving you each time."she informs him as she walks past him. Sensei looks on with a disgruntled expression. (The only thing I have now is a strong and faithful love. I only have this) thinks Kae. She approaches Tamaki when she spots her "I hate you as I'm envious to death of you!" Tamaki smiles and kisses her on the lips "I'll return you the kiss I stole from Masayuki. It's a bad habit I have, liking to tease others. Good luck with the Canon piece!"she grins as she leaves. Kae stands there with a very comical confused face and spaced out expression and Uchida and the shop manager wonder about the scene they witnessed. ^_^ Sensei guesses that Tamaki is actually envious of him and that's why she's teasing Kae so mercilessly. Tamaki admits it as they're so close. They grew up together, why is it only Masayuki who manages to find somebody he can entrust his heart to?

Kae is trembling backstage as she awaits her turn to perform and Sensei smirks as he says it's unlike her. She tells him to listen carefully to her performance and he does so as he waits in the wings. "Not bad eh?"Kae asks as she approaches him. "You did your best."is his cryptic reply. He leans in for a kiss and they smile at each other as they hide in the wings. Meanwhile the shop manager and Uchida are wondering where Sensei is.

~ This Person Is My Greatest Enemy ~

1st April Tuesday 8.30am, we see Kae asleep in bed with the bedcovers kicked aside and the alarm clock beside her pillow. Nae tries to wake Kae up, reminding her that she's got a date with Sensei. "Didn't you retire real early last night?and Kae replies that she couldn't sleep due to the excitement. Nae smiles as she thinks Kae sounds like a kid anticipating an outing the next day. Kae's face darkens as Nae reminds her that it's 1st April. It's 10am and Kae arrives at the meeting point, she grins as she imagines Sensei looking around for her. A guy with a baseball cap approaches her and enquires if she's Ogawa Kae?
Nobuyuki:"I'm Masayuki's younger brother(Goshima Nobuyuki). There was some unexpected work this morning so Masayuki can't make it. He said he'd contact you tonight. So today's date....".
Kae:"I understand. Thanks for making the trip to inform me."says Kae as she turns to leave.
Nobuyuki:"You could come to my place! I'd join you in insulting him!"he hastily adds as he sees her teary expression.

"That moronic stupid old man!"Kae rants as they walk along. "Just bcos it's 1st April he thinks he can kid me? That liar!" Nobuyuki sweatdrops as he agrees; they both have fun insulting Sensei. They get off the bus real soon as Kae feels sick and Nobuyuki tells her she should have mentioned she'd get nauseous in the bus. Kae says she forgot, cos she doesn't suffer from it when Sensei drives. Nobuyuki grins as he tells her that Sensei really pampers her, she disagrees as she wonders since when did Sensei pamper her??

Kae chats with Nobuyuki as they prepare lunch and she gets real serious about peeling her potatoes when she finds out that Sensei is very skilled around the kitchen. Kae smiles as she exclaims that Nobuyuki eats just like Sensei, using the correct method in grasping the chopsticks, and eating in a very neat and precise manner. Nobuyuki chuckles when Kae says that when she eats with Sensei, she can't help but be mesmerised. So she gets embarrassed and says she'll stop talking about Sensei - Nobuyuki replies, why not? It's perfectly fine!. She asks Nobuyuki of Sensei's weaknesses, thinking that he probably has none. Nobuyuki smirks as he says there's a long list
Nobuyuki:"as he's got low blood pressure, he looks like the dead when he wakes in the morning. He talks alot in his sleep and says very weird stuff and he's afraid of hot beverages. I once saw him frowning as he blew repeatedly at his coffee." He sweatdrops as he spots Kae's smirking evil intentioned expression. "Even though he's 8 yrs older than I am, I think in certain ways, he's more childish."Nobuyuki claims. Kae smiles thoughtfully.

Kae is delighted when Nobuyuki plays a video of a young Masayuki. They think that he looked pretty much the same, only younger.
Kae:"This song... he still plays it often."
Nobuyuki:"It's by Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful". "You really want to meet him don't you?"Nobuyuki asks as he notices her wistful expression.
Kae:"Not really, I'm really mad about today. The anticipation is all on my part anyway, he doesn't seem to care."
Nobuyuki:"I wanted to meet you for the longest time, as I've been wondering who Masayuki would take so much trouble to meet, in spite of his hectic schedule."
Kae:"I guess it's cos I'm so willful like a child, so he indulges me."
Nobuyuki:"I think that even if you were an adult, he would indulge you."

There's a call from Sensei and he asks if Nobuyuki managed to meet up with Kae. Nobuyuki:"Hmm... she's kinda cute, but she's got bad taste in guys! Hey, I brought her home, she wasn't feeling well. Yeah.... she got nauseous in the bus. You sure do know her well huh?" He tells Sensei that Kae's Reeeally sick and she's resting at their place, so could he come home soon? Whilst mentally hoping that he wouldn't get a beating since it's 1st April afterall! ^_^ At 6.30pm, Kae gets ready to leave. Nobuyuki tries to get her to stay but she says she's got a score to settle with someone, so she's heading over now.
Kae:"Tell me more of his weaknesses another time alright? Bye!" Nobuyuki thinks that she probably doesn't realise that she's one of Sensei's weaknesses. Kae enters the lift thinking (This is an enjoyable day. I'm going to meet him. Since Sensei isn't coming, I'll go look for him.) The lift doors open and there stands Sensei. He steps in with a disgruntled expression (Is this the face of a suffering patient? That silly Nobuyuki) he thinks. "I've been tricked. You look fine to me."he tells Kae. She rushes in to hug him "It's all bcos of work that I can't give you a proper hug." He heaves a sigh and agrees, saying that he's left Sunday free. He wipes at her lips "look at you, if you're gonna put on lipstick, do it right."
Kae:"D..Don't do that! Stop staring at me! I don't like it!"
Sensei:"You're lying right?"(smirk)
Kae:"I'm not saying that just cos it's 1st April, I'm not lying."(trembling in popped vein mode)
Sensei:"Oh really? Okay....Okay...."

It's Kae's birthday and as a gift, Sensei plays a song of her choice, together with a lingering kiss and he also gives her a bottle of perfume (Pleasures). (Happy 17th birthday.) Kae thinks, now they're only 7 yrs apart. Nae tells Kae to try out the perfume saying that it's for ladies with poise. Kae goes SD mode as she comments that Sensei was probably trying to be sarcastic by giving such a scent to her then.
Nae:"You say it's hateful but you're actually thrilled right?"
Kae:"It's precisely cos I'm thrilled that I say it's hateful!"

Uchida and the shop manager laugh as Kae tells them about Sensei.
Kae:"I wanted that scent a long time back, but he laughed and said I should wait another 10 years, so I shut my mouth."
Uchida:"Ooh... he got you good, that's just Goshima's style!" Kae thinks that since she's turned 17, there should be some difference. Sensei guesses the notes she's picking out on the piano and she asks if he's peeking. ^_^ She thanks him for the perfume and he says:"you're welcome, but I still think you should wait another 10 yrs before using it."(smirk) She tells him that she'd applied some behind her ears, but the fragrance is so mild, she doesn't notice it herself. He leans in for a whiff (what beautiful collar bones... Kae thinks) and notices her earrings.
Sensei:"That's rare, you usually don't have them."
Kae:"Umm.. Nae gave them to me last night."(blushing)
Sensei:"What's wrong?"
Kae:"N..Nothing..." Sensei smiles as Kae asks what's with him. "His expression tells me that for him to see through me, is even easier than guessing the keys on the piano. That stupid stinking old man!!"

Sensei remarks to Uchida and the shop manager that Kae's insults are getting worse and they both think (who do you think she acquired the skill from?) Uchida tells them that there were some highschool boys who came enquiring about Kae's name and he smilingly cautions Sensei. The shop manager warns Sensei that Kae's growing up real quick, so if he were to carry on with his devil-may-care attitude, he'd be in trouble. Sensei simply ignores him, asking Uchida if he saw his coat - he's heading home.^_^ He heads up to the 2nd level and finds Kae dancing with his coat (is this the girl who's growing up real quick? he smiles) He says that a coat can't lead her and she tells him, at least it doesn't redicule her dancing. Uchida plays "Dancing In The Moonlight by Bahamen" for them and gets Kae to promise not to let the shop manager in on this.^_^ Sensei speeds up as he dances with her and Kae objects, telling him it's too fast! She's getting dizzy! So they stop dancing as Kae fumes at him whilst he stands there smirking.^_^

Passers-by stop to look in, smiling, commenting that Sensei looks like a model and that he and Kae look good together. Uchida mentions that he and Kae no longer look uncompatible together. "There's lots of trouble up ahead for you, she's going to get more beautiful and bewitching." Sensei thinks that Uchida is beginning to sound like the shop manager. Sensei is shocked when Kae removes her blouse and scolds her for doing so in public!
Kae:"But it's so warm and I'm wearing a t-shirt inside!"
Sensei:"That's enough...! What are you, stupid?". Uchida is trying to control his laughter in the background. The shop manager returns from running an errand and comments that Sensei smells good, has he been using any new products? He denies this and Uchida says that the scent is from Sensei's coat(courtesy of Kae). The manager smirks as he says, the day that Kae leaves her scent on a man has finally arrived.(annoying Sensei)

They switch off the lights as they leave for the day; Kae asks Sensei what he's annoyed about and he denies it. She fiddles with her earring and exclaims when she accidentally unhooks it and it falls to the floor. Sensei is exasperated as he picks it up and tells her to face the side so he can put it back on.
Kae:"Should I turn the lights back on again? Can you see clear enough?"
Sensei:"There's no need." He stares at Kae pretty profile in silence whilst she waits for him to re-attach her earring. "Sensei?"Kae looks at him questioningly when he makes no move to do so. "You probably already know this, but don't loiter outside on your own at night."Sensei tells her as he turns to leave. "Um.. o.k."replies a bewildered Kae. "Are you still annoyed?"she asks him and he again denies being annoyed (he increases his pace to leave at the speed of light! ^_^)

The shop manager is again laughing at Sensei's expense, he knows that Sensei's troubled over Kae. Just then, they see 2 guys trying to pick Kae up just outside the store. She's just returning from buying some juice and they try to make conversation. Sensei heads out the store and stares coolly at the guys whilst puffing on his cigarette, placing a hand on Kae's shoulder. The 2 guys back away hastily, sweatdropping.^_^ Uchida and the manager sympathise with the 2 young guys, saying that they were no match at all for Sensei. ^_^
Sensei:"You've got no self awareness at all, that's why you get taken advantage of!"
Kae:"Sensei you've been very temperamental lately."
Sensei:"That's not the point! You're not a kid any longer, you have to take responsibility for your own actions."
Kae:"I don't think I've done anything wrong, you're not my father so what right have you got to lecture me?" Sensei is momentarily silent and Kae looks at him in surprise.
Sensei:"Hmm....you're absolutely right! So just do whatever the hell you want!"he slams the door as he goes into the music room.

"Tell me, just what is he so angry about?"Kae asks the manager and Uchida.
Manager:"Well... he wants to put you upon a pedestal, where nobody can notice or reach you, but he knows it isn't possible. Men are possessive by nature, no matter what age group." Kae peeks into the music room and sees Sensei brooding with his feet propped up on the piano. (Initially, I thought that no matter what age I'd be, Sensei would still be an adult way beyond my reach. And yet, the terror that I feel as I sense I'm closing that rift step by step, causes me to tremble.)
Kae:"Would your mood improve if I were to kiss you?"
Sensei:"None of your games would work.Umph...." Kae kisses him as she settles on his lap. Sensei looks pissed at himself as Kae asks "All better right?"

~ By The Kiss That Moves From The Soul ~

Nobuyuki telephones Kae as Sensei is down with a flu and he feels that Sensei needs to be supervised, or he'd work from home and wouldn't rest. Sensei dreams of his deceased parents, thinking that he took such happiness in a family for granted. He sees his parents leaving for that ill-fated trip again, and in his dream he's crying out for them not to leave."Don't go! Don't die....!" He wakes to find Kae beside him, she apologises for waking him as she was trying to take his temperature. Sensei reaches out and hugs her "where did you go? I was looking for you!" he mumbles as he falls back into exhausted slumber. A blushing Kae thinks "Sensei, puh-lease spend the rest of your life in semiconsciousness."^_^

Sensei continues to dream of his parent's funeral and wakes up feeling lousy. He reaches up to remove a dripping wet cloth from his brow and scowls at Kae, who's sleeping sprawled across his legs, blaming her for the horrible dream he had. He sighs... and reaches out to smoothen her tresses. "She's breathing, so delicate and cosy." He thinks back of an ex-lover who asked him "Goshima, you're only 18, why do you prefer older women?" He tells her that as they're more mature, they're less trouble and they know not to make demands of him.(I don't want any "important" person, cos I don't know when she'll be taken from me, so I don't want one. This feeling stayed with me for a long time.)

Sensei wakes to find Kae's note telling him she's gone to get some groceries and she instructs him to stay in bed! Sensei thinks that it's precisely cos she's there that he can't rest properly! (She's handles matters so sloppily, doesn't listen to instructions and can fall asleep just about anywhere! I've got to give her a lecture when she returns!)he thinks. He picks up a framed photograph of his parents (When she returns...what if she doesn't return? Did my fever fry my brain as well?)he sighs..... He looks out the window when he hears sirens wailing outside. People have gathered, commenting that a highschool girl was knocked down by a truck at the junction. (Don't die!)he sits down and repeatedly tries to light his cigarette.(Shit....!)(Anything's fine, as long as she doesn't die. Anything's fine as long as she's alive.)he thinks with tears in his eyes.

He sits dejectedly at his piano and just then, Kae returns."Ah..! What are you doing out of bed? It's just like Nobuyuki said! You can't be left on your own for a minute!
