Ohio County Step Ahead Program
Step Ahead is a comprehensive, statewide process which provides a coordinated approach to deliver needed services to individuals, children and families in their communities.
This process provides an effective way to channel resources so that each resource builds upon previous work accomplished at the local level, allowing greater responsiveness to Hoosiers in need.
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration continues to partner with local Step Ahead Councils in communities across the State, to help Hoosiers live more healthy, independent lives.

2004 Priorities
1. Support health educational programming for children and families.
2. Continue to heighten the awareness of support services available within the community and continue to offer community education programs.
3. Increase awareness of resources and collaborate with the Child Abuse Prevention and Drug Free Council on programs targeting the youth within the county.
Accomplishments
1. Established the first licensed child care center within the county in partnership with the city, county and state. Rising Sun Child Resource Center is also home to Headstart, WIC, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
2. Supported the Dental Care and Vision Program in collaboration with a local dentist, school and service organization.
3. Instrumental in establishing the Rising Sun Medical Center that is fully staffed and includes a licensed social worker.
4. Increased council membership by 85%. Brought the community together to work collaboratively in assessing, planning, coordinating and implementing comprehensive programs in support of families and children.
5. Supported coordinated efforts in offering training for child care providers.
