Greetings and welcome to Rosalee's Herbals.

I have been studying native plants and garden herbals for the past three years and feel blelssed by these plants each day in my life.

When I first started studying plants I lived in Western Washington and I knew absolutely nothing about plants. Walking in the woods all I saw was a great wall of varying shades of green. Plants seem so intimidating - how could I possibly tell one from the other?

After having studied plants in a variety of ways I know it's fairly easy to identify plants and use them in my daily life. I am so grateful to all of my mentors who I have learned from. I have studied
ethnobotany intensively with Karen Sherwood of Earthwalk Northwest in both of their nine month apprenticeship programs as well as weekend courses. I've also learned a lot studying on my own from books by Susan Weed, Steven Harrod Buhner, and Janice Schofield. I was also lucky to live with the Gallagher family and learned a lot from them as well.

Years later I know the best way to learn plants - by taking it one plant at a time and keeping it simple.

My classes are organized to give students as much hands on experience as possible. Classes generally start with general information about the plant we will be focusing on that day; botanical information, historical uses, edible and medicinal properties, and any cautions you need to now to work safely with this plant. From there we will see the plant in the field, learn ethical wildcrafting methods, how to prepare it for use, and finally our final product.

In most cases students will take home a sample of what we have prepared that day, as well as a booklet summarizing all that we have explored. It is my goal that students will go home filled with the knowledge and experience to do this on their own.

Bringing wild plants or garden herbs into your life is easy, simple and fun. Whether it's for medicinal purposes, food purposes or gifts there is an infinite number of possibilities waiting in our backyards.
