BIOGRAPHY
DG Kit Reventar is one tough lady. She goes by many names.  She is the “mommy” of her children, daughter-in-law and grandson; the “Ate” of her 11 siblings; the “Architect” and “ma’am” of he employees, and simply “Iquit” or “Kit” to her friends and fellow Rotarians.

She says she is and will always be a mommy to her children. That is her first role and mission in life.

A graduate of UST College of Architecture with Masteral units in urban planning from the University of the Philippines, DG Kit is a licensed architect who ventured into real estate development at the time when it was neither safe not trendy to do so for a young widow with 4 children, ages 4 to 15 years old. ON hindsight, her late husband, Engr. Raul Reventar, Sr. has prepared he for life’s most challenging role; she had to be both mommy and daddy to their children and in so doing, she had to be a better businesswoman and breadwinner for the family.

The grief and fears of young widowhood had to be brief for her to rise up and face the challenge of single parenting. Twelve years after, the challenging had been met with aplomb and flying colors.

Except for the youngest child,
Mary Rachel, who studies at Dela Salle Zobel, all her children are now grown ups: Raul, Jr., a UP-Diliman alumnus, is also an architect who at age of 27 years old had more architectural and construction projects in his belt; Raphael who is senior materials students of UP-Diliman will finish schooling in March 2002; and Ma. Rhodora who is a sophomore civil engineering student of UP Los Banos. Do not ask DG Kit why her children  preferred the state university for her children knew that as a single parent, she cannot afford the high cost of  a private School..

Being a Businesswoman is another challenge

She had to be the helmswoman and chief executive officer of
Laguna Land and Estate Development Corporation, a company that her husband founded. She also had to b an entrepreneur with all the guts and instinct for taking calculated risks in new business ventures and for meeting all business adversities with which, again on hindsight, she had to thank her late father Stanley Pulumbarit, of Malolos, Bulacan. DG Kit is no neophyte in entrepreneurship. Her father Stanley has always been an entrepreneur for there are 12 children to be fed clothed and sent to school.

Yes, DG Kit came from a big, big family. She has 11 siblings, 3 brothers and 8 sisters who are now all professionals, and yes who at one time or another, attended school at UP-Diliman, UP-Padre Faura, UP-Los Banos, UST and FEU-Institute of Medicine. DG Kit, in fact, need not get health insurance policy for she has 4 sisters who are medical doctors and two brothers-in-law who similarly practice the medical profession. All her 3 brothers are engineers. Another sister is a lawyer. Three other sisters are graduates of economics and business management who expectedly manage their own business venture. To her siblings, she is the quintessential and grand “Ate”.

Then, too, all 12 children since childhood had to help and assist in her papa’s business – from counting the hundreds of bags of cement being delivered to their store; knowing how to weigh kilos of rice, sugar or nail; doing mathematics mentally and fast in computing the loose change for a hundred peso bill or the board feet of lumber a customer wants; to do the purchasing of materials and truck spare parts in Binondo, Divisoria and to as far as Urdaneta, Pangasinan. The list could go on how her father prepared her face the challenge of enterpreneurship.

DG Kit seemed to have taken most, if not all the right steps on the road of a challenged and successful businesswoman and entrepreneur.  Without doubt after 12 years at the helm, she can now more than sufficiently provide for the needs of her family but also her employees and their families who all incessantly call her “ma’am” instead of “mom”.

DG Kit’s realty company is the proud owner and developer of several real estate development project in Bulacan and Laguna: Stanleyville Subdivisions in Malolos, Bulacan and Pagsanjan, Laguna; Carmel Valley Estates and Villa Remedios Subdivision in Calamba, Laguna and Jardin Leonila in Los Banos, Laguna. The realty company also ventured into several other joint venture realty development and other realty-related projects that include among others, the construction and development of private markets, schools, a mortuary and memorial park. She also owns the Calamba Builders Center which is a hardware and construction firm. At one time or another, DG Kit also managed, together with her children, several small-scale businesses like a coffee shop, marketing firm, a video and internet shop, and a pawnshop. She also manages a tree and seedlings farm in Labo, Camarines Norte which she hopes to turn around, in a few years, as a prime resort or a commercial and industrial enterprise.

The tough lady of a District Governor appeared to have been working all the time with no fun. Do not read a book by its cover alone. DG Kit is a die-hard, devoted, hardworking and committed Rotarian at heart. For DG Kit, being a Rotarian is FUN.

Rotarian Kit and The Rotary Years

DG Kit is a quarter of a century Rotarian and very, very proud of it too.

For the first 14 years, she was the Rotary Ann of the late and
PP Raul Reventar. She seemed to have no choice then for her husband spent as much time with her and her children as PP Raul did with the Rotary. Too, his rare free weekends were spent for social and development activities of the Rotary and just so that he spent quality time with their young family, DG Kit and her kids are practically bundled up to tag along with PP Raul. Then, the activities they spent as a family included the Rotary dental and medical missions in remote Barangays of Laguna and Batangas, art workshops for out of school youth in Calamba, Laguna as well as tree planting and environmental treks to save the forest at Mount Makiling in Los Banos, Laguna.

On hindsight, hardly did she realize that her first 14 years as a Rotary Ann were to serve as her learning “nursery” and jumping board to her strides as a leader and Rotarian on her own.

DG Kit has pursued many activities and has gone to many places in pursuit of her role as a Rotarian who has to give back and contribute to the good of society. The Rotary, she would often manifest, has been her “school” for her many tasks as a responsible and concerned member of society. It has honed and nurtured her organizational and leadership talents and skills through her involvement in its projects and participation in its many training programs and conferences.

For the last 11 years, DG Kit has also been the humble recipient of numerous RC recognitions and awards. Four years after her entry as the first woman Rotarian of  RC Calamba, she was awarded a Leadership Award and three more subsequent Presidential Citations. In 1994, she also received the district’s Most Outstanding President Award in tandem in Golden Award for District 3820 Save Mt. Makiling Project and Rotary International’s Balance Achievements Award.

The Rotary Club of Calamba has practically been the second family of DG Kit. Now and then, her children would tease her that she spends equal time as “mommy” to the many youth and social development projects of the club. They would also tease her that while she was learning how to organize and put up a Rotary-sponsored day care center with a matching grant from Rotary International, They ended up concocting and recommending many enriching learning activities for the children as well. They even went to the day care center with her to play with and teach the children sometimes, ended up as godmothers to the day care center’s beneficiaries. Last but not the least, they would tease her the most, if not all her social activities revolved around the Rotary for she has spent long nights, long weekends on several domestic and overseas trips for many Rotary conferences, seminars and training programs. To all these teasing and good-humored remarks of her children, she has this to say: “Rotary makes me a better person, a more responsible member of society, and most of all, a better and more responsible mother and single parent to my children.”

Indeed, as one ad campaign goes, the lady has come a long way. DG Kit is one tough lady and have come a long way.
