Metroplex -The Transformers, Hasbro Meat and Potatoes; 5.0 Perks; 5.0 Homer Factor; 5.0 |
||||||||||
Description; a l0" VERY blocky robot, who comes with three smaller side-kicks. Metroplex also transforms into a city and a mobile battlestation. Metroplex itself in robot form has a huge, square chest, with arms and legs that are just as blockish. The figure is mostly gray with a few black panels and high-lights. It also comes with three compatriots; Six-Gun(Mostly brown with a white barrel chest, the robot is literally made of two long missile launchers,which are the legs, two laser cannons, which are the arms, and two more cannon on the back.), Slammer(small grey tank), and Scamper(Small black sport-car which transforms into a robot.) Metroplex transforms into a city by opening a portion of it's chest to form a landing pad. Next, both legs open up and bend forward 90 degrees to form repair bays. Finally, Six-Gun and Slammer disassemble to form towers which are attached to Metroplex. Finally, Metroplex has it's battlestation form. Metroplex's legs open-up again to extend the legs by about six inches. The legs fold forward 90 degress again to form two large platforms for missile launchers. Then Metroplex's arms fold up to form more cannons. Finally, Six-Gun is disassembled and forms the missile launchers which plug into Metroplex's legs and two more cannons which plug into Metroplex's arms. Whew. |

I really miss G1 Transformers. Don't get me wrong, Beast Wars/Machines and Car Robots are all very cool. They're well made, have great sculpts, blah, blah, blah. However, it's kinda predictable what the toys can do. Yeah, it's a bird that'll change into a robot that'll change into a Gila monster. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... But with G1s, you never really knew what to expect. Maybe it'll be a triple-changer like Blitzwing that transforms from tank to plane to robot. Maybe you'll get something like Predaking where you have 5 ferocious animals change into robots, then they all merge into a 12" robot. One of my favorites was Metroplex. Yes, it was a big block robot with three smaller guys, and it all changed into a battle-station. However, this thing also turned into a CITY. Coooool. The meat and potatoes on this piece are great, FOR IT'S TIME. Always remember, G1 Transformers didn't have the level of detail in sculpting and articulation that their Beast Wars/Machines brethren have. Nonetheless, the work was solid for it's time. You have articulated hips and shoulders, and neat extras like a pop-up missile launcher in the chest, a hidden energy cannon in the shoulder. Metroplex's partners, Six-Gun, Slammer, and Scamper were also well done. The key part, though, are the perks; the transformation from robot to city to battle-station is awesome. Ok, so this thing isn't as large as Fortress Maximus. Still, you have a large landing-bay on the chest, four 'repair bays' for smaller cars, and you get a bunch of towers created from pieces of Slammer and Six-Gun. AND you still have the battle-station form bristling with weapons. Ooohhhhhhh. The Homer factor is huge on this one. When G1s came out, half the fun was wondering what the new piece was going to do. Yes, transforming cars, planes, and dinosaurs are cool, but a CITY. Whoa. So there it is. One heck of a Transformer that is definitely more then meets the eye. |
