The Reviews | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Time to make like Siskel and Ebert. The system I'm relying on is a three catagory system; the Meat and Potatoes, Perks, and the Homer Factor. 1. Meat and Potatoes; The nuts and bolts of the figure... or plastic and paint. In this case, sculpting, paint job, articulation, et al. 2. The perks; What little things does the figure do or come with that makes the figure special? Does it transform? Does it have a cool lighting effect? Does it come with a giant, wrap-around cape? I'm not talking about giant-missile-launching-radar-homing-folds-into-a-coffee-table-and-has-detachable-wheels accessories... although that could be rather neat in a demented sort of way. Is the figure enhanced by what it comes with, or are we looking at something which is going to end up at the discount bin. 3. The 'Homer' Factor; Each person has a little something that makes you go 'ooohhhh.' For some, it's Duff Beer and donuts. For some, it's aircraft, for some... well you get the idea. This applies to toys, too. For some, it's the prospect of 'Akira' figures from McFarlane toys. For others, it's the new figure for 'Heavy Metal 2000.' Whatever it is, it's something abstract about the figure when you hear about it and then see it that makes you go 'ooohhhh.'. Each of these characteristics will be graded from 5 to 1. 5 being the best, something even a non-collector can admire, 1 being cannon-fodder for customizing or being blown-up with fireworks. |
