Roy's Toys Shelf
The Greatest Hits
Description;  just a 'plain' Spawn figure... well, 'plain' relative to Todd Toys.  Hehehehehehehehehehehehe.

The figure itself is about 7" tall and is the classic Spawn; big red cape, spikes all over the place on this arms and feet, the classic black-and-red costume.  The figure has very solid arituclation with lots of motion in arms, elbows, hips, knees, and even wrists.

The figure is equipted with an impressive spring-loaded cape, light-up eyes, and comes with a club, plastic bat, and plastic wolf.
Spawn III- Spawn, series 7, Todd Toys
Meat and Potatoes; 5.0
Perks; 5.0
Homer Factor; 5.0
You know you're a Toy Icon when there are billions and billions of alternative versions of you... but you CAN'T find just a SIMPLE, PLAIN, TRUE-TO-THE-COMIC version.  Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine... and Spawn.  Granted, the umpteenth alternative versions of Spawn do tend to be cool(Such as Samurai Spawn and Manga Samurai Spawn), but what about just a basic, run-of-the-mill SPAWN figure.  Well, I got lucky at the Mid-Ohio-Con dealer room and FINALLY got my hands on one.  ...ok, it's not  QUITE  plain Spawn figure... but it's pretty dang close.  Woohoo!

The meat and potatoes of this piece, per Todd Rules, are very, very good.  'What, no superlatives like awesome?'  No.  This is from the early run of the figures, so we're not talking the mega detail recreate-even-the-laces-on-their-shoes look.  Still, the sculpt for it's time, and even compared to current figures, is very good.  The musculature of the figure is detailed without being too annoying, and even the folds on the collar of Spawn's cape are very well done.  The articulation is also very good.  No, not as agile as Samurai Spawn, but still, you have shoulders, knees, elbows, et al, that give you a very wide range of motion.  No quite enough flexibility for awesome poses, but more then enough for good playability.

The perks on this piece are also very good.   The cape on this figure is not a static vinyl  cape.  Instead, two spring-loaded 'wings' hold the massive Spawn cape in check, draped around his feet.  Hit a little button, and the 'wings' pop out and give you a very cool 'flying' effect with a 10" span.  The catch on the spring is a bit loose, but the draped and 'open' look are both very nice for display.  There's also a decent lighting effect; lift up Spawn's right arm and his eyes glow green.  Normally, I don't like gimmicks like this since they tend to limit the articulation of the figure and are usually lame.   However, both of these little features don't get in the way of the toy itself, and make the figure more fun.  Spawn also comes with a club, plastic bat, and a plastic wolf.  I have no idea why he comes with them, since I don't recall Spawn having animal side-kicks.  Oh well, it's more stuff to display around your figure.

Home factor is pretty high for me.  Hey, it's Todd Toys and SPAWN.  What more can you want?  ...ok, technically, quite a bit considering the other products Todd has punched out.  Which means even MORE anticipation.

Fortunately, this piece is a winner.  Ok, ok, so it's NOT as gaudy or impressive as the other Spawn pieces that are being pumped out.  Hey, not every figure has to be 9" tall with more flexibility then Plastic Man.  This piece is a very good representation of McFarlane's first creation.
