Description; Ah, a legendary character comes to 6" life. Space Ghost is approximate 6" tall and is a perfect recreating of the figure; the black hood, the arm-bands, even the yellow-cape. On top of the excellent sculpt, the figure also sports an impressive amount of articulation. The figure comes with a stool and broadcast table, ala' the 'Coast to Coast' show. Space Ghost also has a neat light-up effect in the right hand to reproduce the legendary energy-bolts in the gaunlets. |

'Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace Ghoooooooooooooooooooooooost.' If you're a Gen-X'er, you remember that war-cry from the classic cartoon. You remember all that stuff; the neat inviso belts, the cruiser, the twins and monkey before the 'The Superfriends', the AWESOME stuff Space Ghost's belt and arm-bands could do? ... ok, ok, so it's one of those nostalgia things that folks 'my age' harp on. Lordy, so this is what our parents go through when we diss THEIR stuff. LOL. Ok, so what's the big deal about a retro-cartoon figure? Well, obviously, the character is VERY cool to a certain generation. But the BIG plus, is this figure is created by none-other then Art Asylum. So what does this company do to a classic 'toon figure? Make him rock, that's what. Meat and potatoes are dead on. The sculpt is PERFECT; not so buff he looks like he's on steroids, but obviously buff enough to not take crap from any space pirates. Art Asylum did an awesome job to maintain the simplicity of the figure, just like the cartoon, but add just enough details, such as subtle musculature, so the figure doesn't look too bland. Articulation is also first-rate; legs, knees, shoulders, wrists, elbows, even ankles. More then enough joints to allow for very dynamic poses on display. Like the sculpt, the painting is perfect, capturing the simple design of the character. Oh, a very nice touch is the soft-vinyl cape on the back that is pre-sculpted to that it appears to be blown by a breeze coming from the left, just as Space Ghost appeared in all the title-shots of the cartoon. Perks... well... you can't win them all. This figure is based upon the 'Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast' persona, so the figure came with a stool and broadcast table. A stool is, well, a stool, so having it be plain makes sense. Unfortunately, the broadcast table is horrible; just some yellow trip, not even the 'SG Coast-to-Coast' logo or anything. Granted, I've never seen the show so that's the way the table may look. Just the same, having SOMETHING on the table would make it look unique and special, rather then something Barbie is donating to a charity. Good news; the figure DOES come with a lighting effect on the right hand that reproduces the energy-blasts Space Ghost always had firing from his wrist-gauntlets. Unfortunately, this effect is ONLY on the right hand, I wish they would have done it to both hands. Homer factor is pretty massive for me. I was raised on this 'toon. Sure, it wasn't the finest thing in the world, but nostalgia goes a VERY long way, and considering the company who's making this thing, you can't go wrong. In the end, the figure is a very fun piece. Unfortunately the perks could have been much better, but if you're looking for a near perfect reproduction of this classic 'toon character, you simply can't loose by getting this piece. |
