The Crow- Movie Maniacs, Todd Toys
Meat and Potatoes; 4.9 Perks; 5.0 Homer Factor; 5.0
Description; the Dark Avenger reborn, even Batman would be un-nerved.

The figure is approsimately 7" tall, principally black costume sculpted to look like torn cloth.  The head of the figure is sculpted with long black hair, with the bangs dripping over the face like black rain.  The face is painted like a frightening Mardi Gras mask, with black high-lights.  The figure is sculpted so it seems to be stalking out of the blister-pack.

It comes with a simple circular stand, guitar with strap to hang on it's back, a black crow, and a back-drop sculpted to look like ancient bones.  Within the back-drop is a tiny card similar to the promo poster of The Crow.

It's easy to go off on a long, drawn-out memoriam of Brandon Lee at a time like this. We'll never know how good Brandon could have been.  Like his father, we can only dream of what if....  On to better thoughts, Todd Toys got the license for The Crow as part of the Movie Maniacs line.  The final figure is a stunning testament to the movie, and to a career cut way too short.

The meat and potatoes of this piece are excellent over all.  First, one problem; where's the articulation?  Movement is limted to shoulders, hips, and neck.  Considering the amount of articulation on other figures, e.g. Manga Spawn, this is rather surpising.  However, this short-coming is made-up for by the sculpt and painting. This figure prefectly captures the spirit of The Crow; the look of anguish, the strands of hair dangling over his face after walking through a storm, the torn jet-black costume.

The perks are also very appropriate.  The figure comes with a well-sculpted back-drop which holds a miniature verson of the movie poster.  The piece also comes with a simple stand, which together with the back-drop helps to create a nice display on your shelf.  The Crow's other accessories are Eddie Draven's guitar, ready-made to be slung over his back, and a small black crown with peggs on it's feet so it can sit properly on the Crow's shoulder.  Personally, a removable trench-coat is a nice touch as well, but you can't have everything.

The Homer Factor on this piece is through the roof.  If you haven't read The Crow by James O'Barr, please read it.  If you read the book, but not seen the movie, please do so.  The story is about vengence, anger, and what a person does when the most important thing you love in the world is not simply taken away, but ripped from your soul.  It's a very harrowing, violent, and powerful story.  Upon hearing McFarlane was taking on the task of recreating this character, I couldn't wait.

The final result is an excellent piece.  Todd  Toys has done the character justice in creating this figure.
