Ultra Megazord-Power Rangers, Bandai
Meat and Potatoes; 4.7
Perks; 5.0
Homer Factor; 5.0
Description; One hell of a super-robot!!!!  Take one 5-part gestalt, slap on a dragon to it's shoulders, then give it some additional armor from a giant Brachiosaur.  And THEN let this ULTRA-robot ride in the Brachiosaur like a horse.

Ultra-Megazord is actually three separate pieces; Megazord, Dragonzord, and Titanus.  Megazord is your standard gestalt with an animal motiff;  The torso is a T-rex, chest is a pteradactyl, arms and back formed by a mammoth, legs are a sabertooth tiger and a triceratops.  The Dragozord looks like Godzzila with a huge breast-plate and a little head-piece like Ultraman.  Titanus looks like a cross between a Brachiosaurus and a giant turtle.

Dragonzord comes apart to become a 'head-piece' and 'shoulder-pads' on Megazord.  This is MegaDragonzord.  Finally, the chest-piece from and fore-claws from Titanus attach to MegaDragonZord.  The tail and chest of Dragonzord are plugged into Titanus.  The end result is UltraMegazord, which then rides in a large cavity in the souped-up Titanus.  .

Over-all size of this piece is HUGE.  The Megazord and Dragonzord are each about 11" tall, Titanus is about 12" tall from base to tip of it's dinosaur neck.  When combined and in 'horse and rider' mode, the piece is over 12" tall and weighs quite a bit, even with no die-cast metal.
Yes, yes, I'm reviewing a POWER RANGER TOY.  Hey, hey, the show IS rather corny... but the TOYS are another story.  Remember, these are built by BANDAI, remember?  GUNDAM, people, remember that.  So why snag these?  Well, if you're a super-robot fan, there are a TON of reasons, namely the fact that the Ultra-Megazord ROCKS.

The meat and potatoes of all three pieces are pretty decent.  Keep in mind, this came out in the early 90's, so we haven't gotten into the realm of mega-detailed sculpts and super articulation, e.g.
Armor Core 2.  Even so, you have a decent amount of sculpting detail with assorted obligatory panel lines, and the articulation on the Megazord gives you moving arms at the shoulders and legs at the hips.  Considering how annoying combiners can be about articulation, that isn't bad.  Stickers don't replace super-detailed sculpting, but it does help.

Ah, the PERKS.  Megazord by itself is a pretty cool gestalt that splits into five individuals robots.  Ok.  Both Titanus and Megadragonzord come with lighting and moving extras.  Fine.  The HUGE deal is that all three pieces merge into the giant machine Ultrazord.  The robot portion itself is about 13" tall.  The reformed Titanus carries the robot portion like a horse and rider, making a very intimidating, and veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery cool looking, piece of work.  One slight problem; this thing is so massive... you may have problems squeezing it on to your shelf.

Oh, point to quibble on; there are MINIMAL accessories.  Megazord comes with a 'power sword' and that's IT.  Granted, in the show, it appears the Megazord doesn't come with a lot, but COME ON.  It's a SUPER ROBOT.  You're supposed have more weapons and gizmos then Batman's utility belt.  Come on, what about more shields, battle staffs, some nunchukus, SOMETHING.

Homer Factor?  Well, I was fortunate to be raised on sentai shows, so I knew they weren't all THAT corny.  Hey, one of the main characters on the show 'Battle Fever' was shot and KILLED.  Heavy stuff... ok, kinda corny, but not in a LAME way.  So when word float around that these toys were coming state-side, it sounded like a good opportunity; giant robots that turn into BIGGER robots, done by Bandai.  Woohoo.

Over all?  Ok, not quite as cool as they were probably in Japan.  Come one, you GOTTA have more weapons then this.  However, you also aren't paying mega import prices, so call it even.  In the end, this is a fine piece of work; VERY good transformation, and over-all pretty good work for a super-robot.  Ok, ok, it's NOT a chogokin.  Hey, this robot still rocks, which is the main thing.
