Unfortunately, that is also the problem with the film. We've seen this before; 'Rocky', 'Sea Biscuit', and 'Miracle'. Yes, these were all FINE films, wonderful stories, immersing you in the pain and triumph of the characters, blah, blah, blah. However, part of the fun of a movie like this is the DRAMA; sitting on the edge of your seat... what happens... will our hero survive. We know what happens; he wins.
In the end, this is still a beautiful piece of work. In a summer filled with the usual pyrotechnics, it's a joy of see something that's about the human spirit and concentrates on HUMANS, not just CGI. However, knowing the outcomes keeps this very good film from being a great one.
