I Gotta Get Me One O' These! - Best Accessory; The Bat Suit, 'Batman Begins'. Utility belt. Check. Supercool cell phone. Check. Neat thingy that attracts MILLIONS of bats so you can use them as a distraction. Check. Bullet, knife, and Tazer proof. Check. Oh, and the cape is designed so you can use it as a glider. Woohoo! Q is smiling right now.
Wire Work can be Fun! Best Fight Since Neo Kicked Ass - Anakin vs Obi-Wan, 'Star Wars - ROTS'. Timthozan's adaption into a novel of 'Return of the Jedi' mentioned the vinal fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan. . A molten pit? A duel between two men who were brothers? The movie was FAR from perfect, but this final confrontation captured the years of hate that would simmer between these two. And hearing Ewan scream 'You were the chosen one!' isn't a corny line. It's filled with anguish and betrayal.
Who Woulda Thought! Surprising Trend of the Summer; Documentaries galore! What do a movie about penguins, quadriplegic athletes, and telling the dirtiest joke in the world have in common? All are subjects of documentaries that were released DURING THE SUMMER! Ok, so out of 'March of the Penguins', 'Murderball', and 'The Aristocrats' only 'Penguins' is making serious money. (Relatively speaking.) However, at a time when it seems like all you get is the same-old-same-old during the summer, it's fun to see OTHER movie choices besides explosions and car chases.
Wow, that looks awesome but... Best Eye Candy with As much Substance; 'War of the Worlds'. Great effects. Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg re-make a sci-fi classic. What could go wrong? Nothing, actually. The problem is something like this should leave you begging for more, not just going 'Wow that was ok.'
Best summer movie; 'Batman Begins'. Sure 'Cinderella Man' has better acting, 'War of the Worlds' has better special effects, and 'Revenge of the Sith' had a LOT more hype. However, the movie that combines acting, story, and pyrotechnics is 'Batman Begins'. Finally telling the origin of the Dark Knight from the first discovery of the cave, through the heart-wrenching murder of the Wayne's, then Bruce's turmoil and training, and finally taking the mantle of the Bat is an epic journey no one had tried. Nolan, Goyer, and an awesome cast were up to the task for telling this amazing story.
