12-15-00 Aalok-Warlands, D-Boy Inc. Meat and Potatoes; 4.9 Perks; 4.0 Homer Factor; 4.5 |

Sorry, No Image | ||||||||
Ok, let me confess, I have never read the comic these figures are based on, so I had no clue when I first bought these things of who the bad buys were, who the good guys were, what their favorite sit-coms were, nothing. However, when I saw promo shots for the Warlands figures this year, I swooned. Nice size, good sculpt, lots of articulation, big honking weapons. Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Fortunately, I am not disappointed. The meat and potatoes for Aalok are very well done. The figure is 6" of well sculpted and well painted vampire.(Got that from the back of the blister card.) Aalok is clad in tons o' plate-mail armor, brandishes a huge broad-swoard and shield, and is wearing a billowing cape. The sculpting isn't quite as detailed as Todd Toys, but very good nonetheless. I especially like the detail on the sword; some runes on the blade, nice textured grip, and a little jewel sculpted on the swords cross-piece. The painting is ok. The dark-blue and gold go very well together, although the detailing on my figure is a bit sloppy. The articulation is very well done, hips, elbows, et al and a nice ball-and-socket job on the shoulders give the figure a nice range of motion for displaying. The only problem I have is the head; Aalok's head is ALWAYS looking down, with that psequdo-thoughtful, distant look. I always thought you looked UP during a fight. Oh well. The perks for this figure are ok, but should have been better. Like I said, the sword is very well done, and the shield is also well crafted. However, considering this dude is wearing about 100 lbs of plate-mail, why doesn't he have a HELMET? Especially since decaptiating a vampire is one way to kill them.(Then again, who knows what sort of mythology Warlands is based on... but let's not go there.) Also, having the cape be removable would have been a nice touch. The Homer factor on this piece was pretty high for me. No, I had no idea what the comic's about. I don't care. The promos showed the figure has the elements I like; size, articulation, detial, and some extras to make it really neat. All in all, this is a wonderful piece for your toy shelf. It's very well done and has a nice bunch of extras to give some oomph to the figure. Oh, after reading the card, it appears that the first series, including Aalok, are mostly the bad guys. Hmmmmmmm... can't wait for the good guys to show up. Hehehehehehhehehehehe. |
