Ah, let the Nostalgia Bug just keep going. Ok, so we've got Transformers, He-Man, now guess what's next; YO JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... ok, ok, so in the 21st century, that's waaaay corny. But the TOYS, do NOT mess with the toys. What's the big deal; they were tiny, had 'eh' sculpting by current standards. Hey, you're fighting nostalgia AND you're also dealing with figures with amazing articulation and mucho accessories. Part of the fun with Joe's was looking at all the neat things they came with. And now, Hasbro has added ANOTHER past line, re-vamped things, and accompanied by a comic book (surprise, surprise). So, how do these figures match-up? Well, let's start by looking at THE pair; Snake-Eyes and Stormshadow. Meat and potatoes are very, very good. Hasbro has taken the lessons from sculpting lots of details on the Star Wars figures and applied them to these Joes. What you get is very good detail on a tiny figure. No, not Todd Toys detail, but seeing the folds and dips on Stormshadow's hood is pretty cool. Articulation is amazing; hips, knees, waist, the whole thing is primed for tons o' posing possibilities. Oh, another nice touch; the original figures had pins made of metal in the joints. Granted, that kept the joints reasonably tight, but looked rather Frankenstein-ish. Well, these figures have plastic pins so that you don't have any break in the painting. Perks? Well..... not bad. Each figure comes with a pair of katana that fit into scabbards that fit into the back. Pretty cool. Each figure some with a pistol and a knife.... and that's it. DOH. What about Stormshadow's bow? How about little tonfas or nunchukus, maybe more guns... ANYTHING? Kinda sparsely armed, guys. Meat and potatoes? Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Nostalgia only goes so far. Yes, the original Joes were relatively neat, but so are old Godzilla movies UP TO A POINT. After that point, you notice the problems, the things that make other people go 'that's corny.' Well, then you revamp things, and you have something reeeeeeal good that isn't dated. Here you go. Yes, it's the 'same' figure, BUT IT'S NOT. Take the coolness of the original Joes and give them 21st century flair. Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh. Over all, nice work. Veeeeeeeery nice work; good sculpting and articulation, a decent assortment of goodies for each figure to mess with. Oh, and a nice bonus; these figures are sold in pairs and VERY affordable. Wow, cool stuff AND a bargain. Excellent. |
