Description; time to build a Jedi army!!!!!!Luminara is one of 5 other Jedi Knights that have been released with the AOTC line. The figure is the standard 3 1/2 inches tall, and is beautifully sculpted. Rather then the traditional Jedi tunic, Luminara has a billowy dress that is all black with a gorgeous gold design down the front. On top of the dress she has on the traditional Jedi cloak and a voluminous head-piece. She is pre-posed into a side-ways defensive stance. The figure comes with a lightsaber with removable blade and a deflecting blaster 'effect' that can be clipped directly on the lightsaber. |

Ya know, the biggest disappointment for me with Episode 1 was you never quiiiiiiiiite got the feeling why EVERYBODY was terrified of the Jedi. Ok, you got a few inklings in the very beginning when Qui-Gon was TRASHING the blast-door with his lightsaber. Still, you never got a chance to see a Jedi REALLY go at it. Well, I think now we finally see why the Jedi were THE most feared folks in the galaxy. Hasbro, in merchandizing over-drive, has released not just one, not simply two, but FIVE more Jedi Knight figures, beyond Anakin, Dooku, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Windu. And to top it off, they're all different species AND two of them are female. You go, Girl! The one I snagged is Luminara Unduli... gotta love these names. So, how good are these new Jedi? Well... in this case, in some ways AWESOME. In some ways... well... The meat and potatoes are very McFarlane; in some ways breath taking. In some ways they reeeeeeeeeally bite. Good news; sculpt is KILLER. Most Jedi we see are clothed in the neo-Samurai tunic, sometimes with the cloak on top. With Luminara, she's forsaken the usual look for a HUGE jet-black dress with a very cool looking design down the front. And rather then just be a straight up-and-down sculpt, the dress billows out to give this wonderful sense of motion. The dress is also well sculpted in that you can see the 'weave' of the material, almost like Samurai armor. The painting on the figure is also amazing. Ok, the finger-nail job is pretty bad. However, the painting done on the design of the dress, and re-creating the facial tattoo of the character is incredible. Ok, BAD NEWS; the figure is pre-posed in a very nice, cat-like defensive pose. Unfortunately, there is little articulation or range of movement. The arms barely rotate to change her grip on the lightsaber, and the legs do not move at all. You do have some rotation on the elbows so she can shift the position of the lightsaber, but that's about it. Perks aren't bad. Traditionally, Jedi don't have a lot of stuff anyway, but the figure comes with a green lightsaber WITH A REMOVABLE BLADE. Ok, not a huge deal, but it's nice to have that detail thrown in. Oh, there's also an extra red plastic piece that's meant to be a 'deflected' blaster bolt, you can clip it right on the saber. Not a huge deal, but for display purposes, it's a nice touch and adds a sense of 'life' to the piece. Homer factor? High. I love getting more Jedi Knights, and it's nice to see one who isn't clothed so blandly. Granted, there is probably a vow of poverty in the Jedi Rule Book, but do you ALL HAVE TO DRESS IN TAN AND BROWN? Sheesh. All in all... well, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a cool display piece, the figure rocks. The incredible sculpt and the little blaster 'effect' all give this figure an amazing sense of life and motion when it's on display on your shelf or desk at work. However, if you're looking for something more posable and with more playability, you may want to look elsewhere. |
