Poor Wonder Woman. While Superman and Batman bask in the glory of being archeytpes, coolest charaters, legends, blah, blahb, blah, Wonder Woman is relegated to 'Hey, isn't she the chick with Batman and Superman in JLA?' This is very unfortunate since she is very important in the Pantheon of Comic Heroes; one of THE oldest characters still in publication, the first major female super-hero, among other. A few years ago, Gerorge Perez did a terrific job bringing Princess Diana back after her demise in 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'. His return to the Greek mythological influences gave the comic wonderful life, and introduced a number of great villains, such as Ares and Circe, and reintroduced some great old ones, such as the Cheetah. After the demise of the Total Justice line (which I loved. Nyah.) Hasbro has slowly been releasing the full roster of the JLA as part of, naturally, the JLA line. After much waiting, we finally have a Wonder Woman figure to go along with Batman and Superman, the perfect fit to complete the Big Three. Well, not quite perfect... The meat and potatoes of this piece are ok, but a bit off. The sculpt itself is well done. Hasbro has given Wonder Woman a unique, triangular face that looks good and exotic, which is perfect for the character's unique origin. The over-all body sculpting is also well done; feminine, but not Lady-Death exaggerated. The hair on this figure is perfect; not simply straight strands, but waves of jet-black hair past the shoulders. Unfortunately, the articulation is very mediocre; just hips and shoulders, like the other JLA figures. The big problem is the height; this piece is a head taller then Batman and Superman. Granted, this is probably the way an Amazon should be, but in terms of Comic Continuity, she's tall enough to smack Shaquille O'Neal on the nose. Great for hoops. not for action figures. The perks are also very 'eh.' She comes with the complimentary stand all JLA figures do, which I love. No more praying your figure has flat feet or leaning your piece on the back of the shelf. Just stick the peg in the feet and go. The figure also comes with the trade-mark Lasso of Truth, rolled in a hoop with a large peg so the lasso is attached to Wonder Woman's belt. Problem is, that's it. Granted, Wonder Woman isn't normally piled with stuff, but maybe a few things, like removable bracelets and tiara, would have been a nice touch. The Homer factor was originally really high for me. I loved George Perez's revitalization of Wonder Woman, and I hoped to see a 5" version of the Amazon for a while to go with the other JLA pieces. In the end, this figure didn't quite meet expectations. It's not horrible by any means. However, considering the great work Hasbro did on the Dark Knight Batman, I was expecting something much better. |
