Yagyu Jubei- Onimusha 2, McFarlane Toys Meat and Potatoes; 5.0 Perks; 5.0 Homer Factor; 5.0 |
||||||||
Description; Toshiro Mifune as only McFarlane could do it. The figure is approximately 6" tall and is very well sculpted in pseudo-traditional samurai garb from the era; white tunic, charcol-gray trousers and 'jacket.' The figure is trimed in red and bronze. The figure boasts a decent amount of articulation; not as stellar as Samurai Spawn, but no where near as annoying as Lotus'; shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, and some extra rotation on the biceps. The figures comes with a veritable armory; bow, arrow, spear, battle-staff, broad-sword, and katana with scabbard. Whew. |

'Samurai Jack' on Cartoon Network. Jackie Chan flicks. Even 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is making a come-back. Sense a theme here? Ah, let the martial-arts over-flow! At this rate, somebody is going to try and re-make 'The Karate Kid.' Please... I was kidding... besides, I LIKED the first one. Well, who is Todd McFarlane to ignore the bandwagon? Not only is this figure from a video-game line, but it's also a SAMURAI video-game. Ok, I admit it, I have not freaking idea what the game is about, just that Yagyu is the good-guy. Beyond that, nada. So why did I get this thing? Hey, it's MCFARLANE TOYS, folks. AND... I have a soft-spot for samurai figures. But is it good? Actually, it's VERY good... about as good as Samurai Spawn, actually. Yes, it's that good. Meat and potatoes? Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhh, when McFarlane is on, they're ON. Granted, he's not in an outfit as ornate as the armor Samurai Spawn was in, but still very well done. The sculpt and painting captures the folds and creases of every-day samurai wear very well. The articulation is very solid, not as spectacular as Samurai Spawn, but that is a bit of a blessing. Sure, Samurai Spawn was very flexible, but that was through some VERY unorthodox joints all over the bloody place. If you weren't willing to SERIOUSLY mess and pull with the figure, you had no idea how the shoulders worked. Instead, this figure sticks with traditional ball-joints in the shoulders, hips, and ankles. The figure also rotates at the waist, bicep, neck, and has knees. I wish the figure had a few extra joints so it could hold it's sword two-handed, though. One gripe, one observation. First, the observation, which applies to all the latest McFarlane figures; they shrank. They're now about 6" tall, noticeably smaller then they used to be. However, THAT'S GOOD. Personally, the figures always seemed to be a bit too big and bulky. This size is juuuuuuuuuust right; big enough so you can cram in lots and lots of details, but not so big it's eating up space on the shelf. Ok the gripe; I'm having a problem standing this thing. The figure is pre-posed in a crouch, which gives it a decent action pose, but I'm still shuffling the feet around to figure out how to get this dang thing to stand. Doh. Perks. Oh, perks. The one major problem I had with Samurai Spawn is it didn't come with anything; just the sword. :-( This guy, though, is LOADED; bow, an arrow, spear, double-bladed quarter-staff, an extra broad-sword... broad-sword? Whatever. Oh, and another nice touch; the katana comes with a scabbard with a carrying-sash. Woohoo! Homer Factor? Need you ask? Hold on a sec as I grab a rag to blot at the drool on my chin. When I saw promo-shots of this figure, and it's pose, I was a bit worried; ANOTHER great sculpt with no flexibility. However, upon seeing the piece in a store and really seeing the joints on it, my fears disappeared... and were replaced with pure joy as I saw how many extra goodies Jubei-san came with. Over-all, this figure accents everything great about a McFarlane figure; awesome sculpt, good articulation, and LOTS of goodies to go with your figure. Fine, it can't stand well. Hey, who said you were going to just display this thing, right? Hehehehehehehehehe. And don't forget, in less then a year, McFarlane toys gets to do 'The Matrix' figures. Ooooooohhhhhhhhhh. |
