Good Signs for the New Batman Movie
Ok, ok, so we've heard this COUNTLESS times.  It's turned into a rather sad joke.  This has to be some sort of Karmic pay-back for all those nasty jokes we said about 'The Fantastic Four' and Captain America' movies.  Still, after the Dark Knight has gone through Development Hell so many times (Development Hell is probably worse then Dante's 'Inferno'.  Hey, only 7 levels in Dante's hell)  why should we believe things this are different this time?  Well, there are actually a lot of good reasons.

1.  REAL director.  No fan-boys, no music video nuts.  Instead, we have a movie director who's developed a reputation for creating amazing film noir' work ('Memento' and 'Insomnia'.)  Remember, Bryan Singer, director of the 'X-Men' franchise, did 'The Usual Suspects'.

2. Casting the lead is done.  Remember the 'Superman' fiasco?  We're asking Josh Hartnett.  No, we're talking to another guy.  Wait, Brendan Fraiser hasn't said no yet.  None of that silliness, WE HAVE CHOSEN SOMEONE TO WEAR THE SUIT AND HE'S OFFICIALLY SIGNED!  And this leads to another good sign..

3. Christian Bale as Batman.  Unfortunately, I know of only one piece of work he's done, but it's a good forecast of what we can expect; he was the protagonist of 'American Psycho'.  The key to Keaton's wonderful interpretation of Batman were those moment when the over-the-top psycho started to show it's ugly face on Batman.  Well, apparently Bale gets to channel that all over again.  Bwahahahahahahahahahaha.

4. Ras' Al Ghul; (Ok, a whining moment; they used the villain I had in my own Batman script!  After hearing so much bitching about Batman movies, I decided to break a Cardinal Rule of the Budding Screenwriter and do a script based on a character I didn't own.  Doh!  Well, I think it's a dang good story.  Oh well, maybe another time)  Ok, this isn't official, but considering how many people have mentioned The Demon's Head as the villain, I think it's pretty kosher.   No more gimmicks, no more silly guest-villains (Tim Allen as 'Scarecrow' and Sylvester Stallone as 'Killer Moth'!), simply a villain that is a GLOBAL  threat and someone capable of out-smarting the Dark Knight, not just out-fighting him.
