The Next Great Epic
'Star Wars.'  'Halloween'.  'The Terminator'.  The common factor?  All three were movies that were very successful that lead to OTHER movies that were either good 'clones' ('Robocop', 'Scream', 'The Last Starfighter') or sometimes, well, sometimes they just didn't get it.(Most of the 'Friday the 13th' movies.)  Well, now we get to see what sort of genius or crap the Powers that Be come up with after 'Lord of the Rings' went buck-wild.  So what is the next Grand Epic?  And I'm not talking about generic sequels, e.g. 'Spider-Man 2.'  Sure, it's fun stuff, but there's a case of good movies giving in the sequel-itis... and then there are series like 'Lord of the Rings' that just leave you in awe.  No budget limits here, folks.  So what would you do if George Lucas went to you and said 'Ok, here's a check, just make sure it doesn't suck.'  Here are a few possibilities.

1.  Something based on Ragnarock.  Ah, the last battle in Norse Mythology!  One of the great things with the Norse Gods is most people are familiar with them, and there's a definite END to the story.  Ok, so the end has to be tinkered with since it's actually a DEPRESSING ending... but what a battle!  Thor taking on the thousands of miles long Midgard's Serpent!  Odin hurling his spear at Fenris the giant wolf!  And Surtur rising from hell with his giant, flaming sword to cleanse Asgard!  Oh yeah!

2. The Honor Harrington Books.  Yep, I've mentioned her a few times.  These combinations of sci-fi fun and military tactics are amazing books.  Giant space battles.  A ships' captain with better tactics then Capt. Kirk AND Bruce Lee... and she's a hottie!  And the books in this series are at 10 and counting!

3. The Battle of Marduk Vs Tiamat.  While we're talking about epic mythology, let's throw in some Babylonian myths.  No where near as well knows as Heracles and Thor, but Marduk was also one of the great soldiers of light in the Babylonian pantheon.  Tiamat was on of the great, diabolical beings of Babylonian myths, and a biiiiiiiiiig dragon to boot.   The confrontation between these two beings of good and evil made for great stories for the Babylonians, so imagine a CGI take on this epic confrontation.

4. Cthulu!  We've done mythology, and sci-fi, so let's throw in horror!  The nightmares of HP Lovecraft are dying to be brought to life, and what better source then one of the eeriest tales ever told.  The story of a giant being that is hundreds of feet tall, with an intellect greater then all of humanity combined.  It's goal, unknown.  All we know is it is awakening after millions of years of slumber.... and it's beginning to stretch it's slime-covered arms over humanity!
