Winter Flick Expectations And with the passing of Labor Day, the clock ticks for the OTHER movie season; The Holiday Movie Season!!! Ok, ok, not as big as summer, but with Harry Potter movies for another decade and one more 'LOTR' flick, winter-time is a GOOD time for movies. So what are we waiting for? 1. Ah, let the sequels begin; 'Red Dragon', 'Nemesis', 'Two Towers', 'Harry Potter', 'Die Another Day'... um, anything coming out that's NOT a sequel? Oh well, good news is most of these look pretty decent and should go beyond being real sequel fluff.(e.g. 'MIB II.' Not horrible by any means, but come on guys.) 2. Oscar, Oscar, Oscar. Here's your last chance to get those flicks in for Oscar consideration and not worry about being lost amongst the SFX and pyrotechnics of the summer. Keep your eyes open for anything depressing or is a British period piece. Oscar folks ALWAYS love those for some reason. 3. FINALLY. 'Gangs of New York.' No, it's coming out... really... we're not kidding... it really is... no, this isn't a typo. Oh, you forgot about this biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig budget drama with Leo and Carmen and directed by Scorsese? ... well, just about everyone else has accept for the distribution companies who are sooo glad this freaking movie is finally going to be released. Fortunately the previews look pretty good. However, for a drama costing about $100 mill, this better be REALLY good. Remember guys, Ep 2 cost just over $100 mill, and 'Spider-Man' cost about $150 mill, and look how much THEY raked in. Oh, and ONE MORE worry for these folks, 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' cost... I believe under $10 mill, and it's made well over $100 mill.. No pressure, no pressure at all. 4. Let the clock start ticking... Heck with this noise, 'The Matrix; Reloaded' is out in May!!!!!!!!!! |
