The Year in Review 2002 Ah, that time of the year to look back and go 'How much did I spend this year on this stuff??!??!?!?!?!?!' Oh well, it's all in fun, right? Time to look back and see what was good, bad, and down-right wretched. 1. Oh, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. The toy-line that left us wanting more... MUCH more; Transformers: Armada. Ok, who didn't just drool like all get-out when they heard Armada was coming out? Who didn't wait at every store, eagerly awaiting the cases to be popped open? Who didn't get these and go '... and your point is...?' Granted, these figures aren't horrible, as my reviews have been pretty solid over-all. Just the same, after Car Robots from Takara, we ALL anticipated something very, very, very, very over-the-top with this line. Well... we got... well... we got basically Targetmasters with better sculpts. Oh joy... 2. Woohoo!!!!!!!! Announcement that left us drooling; McFarlane Toys getting 'The Matrix.' Hey, N2Toys did an awesome job with this line... and then the company was never heard from again. Remember 'Hardened Heroes?' Ah, didn't think so. But bless the deities Todd didn't let a butt-kicking opportunity get away. Todd won't let fans of 'The Matrix' down. 3. Woohoo!!!!!!!! part 2 The OTHER announcement that left us drooling; Mattel gets the DC License. Ok, if this were a year ago, all of us would be yawning. Oh great, the company that's doing Harry Potter gets to mess-up Batman and Superman. THEN... He-Man figures came out, and the Power of Greyskull and the Power of the Four Horsemen came to light. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. 4. Figure of the Year; Bespin Luke. Sooooooooooooo many possibilities for this one. Why this figure, other then the umpteenth Kaiyodo Figure or something from McFarlane? Because not only does this figure rock, but you can get it for under $10.00. Great work AND it's affordable. You can't beat that. 5. It's Alive! The toy-line that just keeps on coming back; Gundam. Sure, He-Man and G.I. Joe are back, but Gundam is just EXPLODING; 'G Gundam' alone is responsible for even more figures on the peg... and Bandai hasn't even gotten into 'Zeta,' 'Gundam X',... oh, you get the idea. 6. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Most annoying toy-lines for one reason or another; DC Direct When this line first started, it was great stuff; lots of off-the-wall characters, great sculpts, blah, blah, blah. Well, folks, it's time to evolve a bit more, especially since Marvel Legends is KICKING YOUR BUTT. Not only do the Marvel figures have amazing sculpts, but for the same price-point there is also more to enjoy; slightly bigger figures, much more articulation, and even a stand for a comparable price. 7. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ANOTHER Annoying Toy-line; Marvel Legends. Sure, sure, they're awesome, BUT WHERE THE HECK CAN YOU BUY THEM?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! |
