Human Video's Get creative! |
Too Cool For Jesus You will need the Brother’s Keeper CD with the song “Too Cool for Jesus.” A modern generation “human video” that asks the question: “Are you too cool for Jesus?” The lives of three main characters are portrayed, and the results of three different lifestyles are shown in a very dramatic way. Characters: Trash Mouth Ricky – A popular, ultra cool jock. Thinks every girl is in love with him, and every guy wants to be him. Bobby – A baggy pants wearin’, rap lovin’, gangsta wannabe. He’s trying hard to live the gangster life and prove to his homey’s that he’s as cool as they are. Satisfied Mary – A typical teenager who is comfortable with who she is! Not necessarily a typical Christian teen, but a very strong believer! One Jock Friend – Trash Mouth Ricky’s friend who borrows Ricky’s car. One or two Cheerleaders – Hang onto Ricky and offer him drugs. Two Medics – Carry the dead off stage. Two Christians – Try to invite Ricky and Bobby to be with them. One Gangsta “Friend” – Bobby’s friend who is selling drugs. One Forward Guy – Tries to put the moves on Mary. Is it cool? Is it cool? Is it cool? Is it…? Are you too cool for Jesus? Are you too cool for Him? | Trash Mouth Ricky enters from back, wearing sunglasses, struts down middle aisle, carrying a football. Waves and points to people on both sides as he walks. Ricky should be on the stage by the time verse begins. | Trash mouth Ricky is a superstar He gets all the women in his souped up car He said livin’ is high on wheels He does what he feels He’s got a theory let the good die young And that uptight square’s gonna take his fun A big hit and a heart attack And he won’t be back! Are you too cool for Jesus? Are you too cool for Him? | Throws his football to a friend who has joined him on stage from the front row. His friend mimes a set of keys turning, like he’s asking for Ricky’s keys. Ricky pulls out a set of keys and tosses them to his friend. His friend gives him a “thumbs up”, and takes off to drive Ricky’s cool car. A Christian (or two) approach Ricky holding Bibles, and motion for Ricky to come with them. He sneers and motions them away. They wave “bye” and continue off the other side of the stage. Two girls (cheerleaders) approach Ricky from the rear, and take his arms in theirs. One pulls out a small bag with white powder in it and gives it to Ricky. He opens it, takes some on his finger and snorts it. He then clutches his chest and collapses. The girls look terrified and run off. Two men dressed in white medical uniforms come onto stage carrying a stretcher. They pick up Ricky and carry him off. | Bobby took a pledge, put God on the shelf He put his faith in a friend, can’t save himself They wanna kick it up gangsta style They got a fat cash pile. He’s heard of Jesus one time before He said “It’s too soft, man, I’m hard core!”I’m no fairy, no Peter Pan, I won’t love no man! Are you too cool for Jesus? Are you too cool for Him? Is it cool to hang and die? Let ‘em spit into your eye. Suffer for the world’s sake, only to be called a fake Have the power in your hand, to crush every blinded man. What’d He do? He died for you! Now is it cool? Is it cool? Is it cool? Is it cool? Is it cool? | Bobby comes in from the side, walks in front of audience. He’s wearing headphones, and bobbin’ his head with the rap music. His friend approaches from the other side and meets him at the stage. They flash some signs at each other. The friend pulls out a bag of white powder, and a wad of cash and shows it to Bobby. Bobby takes the cash and flips through it. Nods his head at the friend like saying “yeah, man. That’s cool.” Then Bobby reaches and pulls a gun out from behind his back. The friends eyes get wide as he takes the gun. He hides it quickly as the Christians re-enter the stage, wave at Bobby and motion for him to come along with them. He shakes his head “no”, but then looks at them as they walk off the other side of the stage. He starts to follow after them, but his friend grabs his shoulder and turns him around. He asks “what are you doing?” and looks disgusted. Bobby starts to walk away again, and his friend grabs him. They start to fight, and the friend pulls out the gun and shoots Bobby. The two medics come back to the stage with their stretcher, put Bobby on it and carry him off. | Satisfied Mary won’t sell her soul She’s got Jesus in her life to make her whole They try to tease her, but she wants to wait She’s so out of date Then they tell her that you’re too held down,You’ll never be hip till you sleep around. She said I could be you if I wanted to be, but you can never be me! | Mary enters carrying a bible, looking happy. A guy approaches her carrying a rose. She looks flattered, takes it, and they start to walk off with the guy’s arm around Mary. He then stops her and leans around to kiss her. He’s aggressive, and she pushes him away and backs up. He tries to pull her back to him, and squeezes her butt. She looks shocked, pushes him away again. He looks disgusted at this point, shoves her and walks away. She looks sadly at the rose, and tosses it aside. Are you too cool for Jesus? He loves you anyway! | Bobby’s friend then wanders back onto stage, looking down at the gun he used to shoot Bobby. Mary sees him and approaches him. They meet at center stage. When he sees her, he looks freaked out and tries to hide the gun behind his back. She asks, “what’s wrong?” He shows her the gun, and mimes shooting. She’s shocked, but shows him her bible and invites him to pray with her. He looks uncertain, but she reaches for the gun, he gives it to her, and she lays it down. She then takes his hand, and kneels to pray. He kneels with her, and they begin to pray together. | Comments on “Too Cool for Jesus” by Brother’s Keeper: A lot of times, Christians are made to feel that they are missing out on the "big world party" by abstaining from certain things or not giving into peer pressure and countless other temptations. But what's going on out there isn't all it's cracked up to be. By living for Christ, we're not missing out on anything worthwhile. This song asks us to consider Jesus' ultimate sacrifice when trying to decide how to live. Jesus didn't consider himself too cool to die. How can we possibly think we're too cool to live for Him? |

“How To Start a Drama Ministry” by Sherry L. Kirton Q “...I’m trying to get a drama ministry going for the adults, youth and children. How do i get started? I have in hand some drama & mimes which I printed from the net and I don’t really know what to do next. I would really appreciate your advice.” Gods Mighty warrior, Lin A A Getting a drama ministry started: · Pray (of course) · Know your audience (cultures, genders, ages) · Pick three short scripts that either speak to those groups or can be changed to do so. · Find a few friends (or children) to present these scripts, and ask them to pray about helping you. · Choose a regular time to practice with them (otherwise people get lazy and forgetful). · Pray before and after every rehearsal with your team and remind them all that none of you are here to be performers/actors; you all are gifted ministers commissioned by God to reach His people with the Truth. WHY? - tip 4 · Make sure all of you have a goal (witness to pre-christians, illustrate the sermon, whatever). · Pick a day to present your first script, a day for the second script and one for the third, but make sure that the days aren’t too close together or you all will panic and burn-out. · Pray for yourself and your friends every chance you get, because the enemy will not like what you are attempting to do. · Trust in God and just go for it no matter what the enemy throws at you. · I keep in touch with my Pastor to let him know our plans and problems and to know his so that we can plan together and pray together. Having another warrior by your side makes it easier, so consider all this while you are praying and ask God to provide what you need and to let you know what He wants from you. That should provide you a good start... When your team has presented a script· make sure you publically offer others the opportunity to join your team and have a handout announcing your regular rehearsal time with the goal of your group clearly listed. · this would usually be a good time to pick out three more scripts. · keep checking in with your pastor and more importantly, with God. · if you know of any intercessors (especially ones who have seen what your group has done) give them a list of your team members’ names and any important information, let them know of any problems you may be having so that they can pray more specifically for all of you. One more thing:Try the Free Artistic Outreach Weekend Workshop [AOWW]if you have any team issues already plaguing your ministry or your team is yet to be seen this workshop is for you. Just choose “drama” as the practical project and let us know about your needs so we can be of service to you and you can be of service to those who have yet to hear the Gospel in your local area. May this be a blessing to you and those you serve, IJN~Sherry Kirtonthe Kirton Drawn Back - Artistic Outreach and Christian Youth Ministry http://www.angelfire.com/or/skirtonbear |

They awaken to find themselves in Paradise and embrace. |
Wide Eyed by Nichole Nordeman You will need the Nichole Nordeman CD with “Wide Eyed.” Characters: Wide Eyed Girl Drunk New Ager Jesus Group of Friends Stage Set-up: Before the music begins, the Drunk is positioned at stage left, with a bottle in a bag (presumably his alcohol). The New Age Girl sits on a table stage right wearing beads/crystals. The Group of Friends stands in a semi-circle at center stage surrounding Jesus (who is ducked down on a chair) so that the audience cannot see Jesus at all. All characters on stage start with their heads down and are motionless until Wide Eyed makes it to them. Wide Eyed Girl starts in the back of the sanctuary carrying a large Bible. As the music begins, she slowly starts walking toward the front toward the stage…she should be at the “Drunk” at stage left when the lyrics start. When I met him on a sidewalk He was preaching to a mailbox Down on 16th Avenue And he told me he was Jesus Sent from Jupiter to free us With a bottle of tequila and one shoe He raged about repentance He finished every sentence With a promise that the end was close at handI didn’t even try to understand When the lyrics begin, the Drunk comes to life, and starts preaching first to the mailbox, and then to the girl when he sees her (all silently, of course). He points to the sky and staggers around with his bottle in his hand. At one point he tries to put his arm around the girl. All the while she looks at him strangely, and backs away each time he moves toward her.She smiles weakly and clutches her Bible closely to her chest, and perhaps tries to give him a quarter. He knocks it down and starts preaching even harder. The Drunk can mime some words, as if he’s shouting “THE END IS NEAR!’ He left me wide eyed in disbelief and disillusion I was tongue tied, drawn by my conclusions So I turned and walked away And laughed at what he had to say Then casually dismissed him as a fraud I forgot he was created in the image of my God The girl tries to act like she’s interested for a moment, and then responds to his bad breath. She begins to back away again, shaking her head. The drunk starts to follow, and then turns back to his mailbox. The girl turns around, heads to center stage, and looks back to the drunk one more time, and laughs while she shakes her head at him. The girl opens her Bible and studies in it until the next verse begins. The drunk freezes. When I met her in a bookstore She was browsing on the first floor Through a yoga magazine And she told me in her past life She was some plantation slave’s wife She had to figure out what that might mean She believes the healing powers of her crystals Can bring balance and new purpose to her life Sounds nice The girl walks stage left, and sees the New Ager sitting on a table in a “yoga” type pose. The New Ager springs to life, opening her magazine, holding it out to the girl, trying to beckon her to take a look. After she flips through some pages, and the girl declines to look, the New Ager begins ranting (mimed) about her past life, mouthing some words about being reincarnated, and pointing to the sky.The New Ager reaches for her crystal necklace, takes it off and mouths that it has healing powers. She offers it to the girl. The girl pats her on her back, and mouths “That’s Nice” She left me wide eyed in disbelief and disillusion I was tongue tied, drawn by my conclusions So I turned and walked awayAnd laughed at what she had to say Then casually dismissed her as a fraud I forgot she was created in the image of my God New Ager goes back to her magazine. Girl backs away, looking at the New Ager strangely. She starts to say something to her, but stops.Girl turns around and starts to walk back to center stage. She turns and looks one last time, and laughs at the New Ager, while shaking her head.New Ager freezes. Girl studies in Bible again until next verse. Not so long ago, a man from GalileeFed thousands with His bread and His theologyAnd the truth He spokeQuickly became the jokeOf educated, self-inflated Pharisees like me | Musical Interlude | And they were wide eyed in disbelief and disillusionThey were tongue tied, drawn by their conclusionsWould I have turned and walked awayAnd laughed at what He had to sayAnd casually dismissed Him as a fraudUnaware that I was staring at the image of my God. Musical Ending. As soon as this verse begins with the big musical push, the group of friends backs away from the chair, and Jesus stands up, wearing a robe, and holding bread. Girl notices a crowd around a man, and walks over to see what’s going on. As she gets into the crowd, she notices that they’re all laughing at him, and some look angry and are picking up dirt to throw it at him. They’re pointing and mocking, and encourage the girl to do the same. Jesus tries to hand the girl some bread. She walks over to take it, but one the friends knocks it out of her hand. All the while, Jesus continues to reach out his hands to the entire crowd looking around and asking them to come to him. As this verse begins, the friends start to leave the stage, one by one. The girl watches as her friends walk away, but keeps looking back to Jesus. The friends beckon her to come with them as they leave, and she starts to walk that way, but can’t quite leave Jesus. She stands at the edge of the stage, looking toward her friends, and then back at Jesus, torn about what to do. Then Jesus reaches toward the drunk, and the drunk comes back to life. He looks at his bottle and tosses it aside, and runs and bows beside Jesus. Jesus reaches toward the New Ager, she comes to life, throws off her beads, and runs and bows beside Jesus. The girl witnesses both of these, and realizes now who Jesus is. She runs back to him at center stage, and bows. Jesus reaches down, lifts her up, and hugs her. Music fades… Comments to “Wide Eyed” by Nichole Nordeman Having lived in Hollywood for about a year, I was forced to come face to face with many diverse people every day. I was surprised and embarrassed by how sheltered my life had been until then…surrounding myself mostly with people who were like-minded, and consequently, safe to know. I really had to come to terms with my quickness to judge, to laugh, to “dismiss” anyone who threatened my sense of normalcy. And it made me wonder – how would I have reacted to Jesus if I’d met him in Los Angeles? |
