Things on this Site So, you've thinking about traveling to Korea and becoming an ESL instructor or working at some other occupation.. Now what? I had a million questions when I first came to Korea and had a hard time finding any answers. There wasn't alot on the internet, but I'm happy to say that has changed. You can find alot out there now, but you have to be careful. Not all of the information out there is up to date or true. So, I decided to create and maintain this website to give newbies a basic idea of what they are getting themselves into and a true source of what to expect.. It is definitly a big step and the more you know the better your experience will be. Technically, you're not leaving the planet, but for some they might feel that thay have. Before you Leave: There are alot of things you need to know before you come here. Make sure you do you homework before you get on the plane. At the Airport: You step off the plane, probably thankful that the long flight is finally over, and find yourself at Incheon airport. Hopefully, you have someone picking you up. If not, here are some tips for finding your way around as well as some things you need to know upon entering and leaving the county. The First Month: Some people adjust quickly to living in Korea. Others are not so lucky. Here are some tips to suriving the first few months here. The Long Run: I've been here over five years now and plan on being here a lot longer. How do I do it? Here are some tis covered for getting around and also for buying a scooter or car of your own. Korean Nightlife: Koreans love to have a good time and if you like to go out on the weekend here are some places that will keep you partying till the wee hours of the morning. Dating in Korea: Dating is tough. Try doing it with someone from a different culture. Here are some tips on dating the opposite sex (Ok, it's for the guys. Maybe someday I'll get a foreign woman's thoughts on the subject, but for now you ladies will have to look elsewhere. Tales of Korea: Here are some stories of things that have happened to me in my time here. The good, bad and the ugly about sums it up, but hopefully you'll find some useful insight to life in Korea. Fukoka: I have switched jobs a lot here always on the lookout for something better or for other peronal reasons. If your here and you need to do a Visa run, Fukoka is a great place to do it. Here are some tips for getting around and what you need to do your run. Teaching in Korea: As I said before, I've been teaching here for over five years and have taught about every type of class you can think of. I'm no expert, but here are some tips on teaching as well as some lesson downloads that have worked well for me. Ruger's Rants: I'm not much of a blogger, but here you'll find some of my occasional thoughts on my life in general. FAQs: I often get asked questions about living in working in Korea. So, I've added a section were the most common ones will be answered to the best of my (or if I can find someone more knowledgible on the subject) ability. Korean Links: Here are a bunch of links I've found that helped me and hopefully will help you as well. If a link is in black, it should work. The brown ones are pages yet to be. If a link doesn't work, let me know. If you have a question feel free to contact me and I'll try and answer. Enjoy the site. |

February 2/15/2008 Lately, I've been hanging out on Youtube and have been doing some videos about stuff I am into and also general ramblings about Korea. Pretty busy at the moment at work, though it is a three day weekend, so hopefully I can get some new stuff on the site. I am feeling much better and just had a checkup and things are looking up. Still on about 10 pills a day, which the doctor says I will be taking for the rest of my life. Bah, what does he know. Anywho, if you'd like to check out my Youtube channel and/or my videos you can go to: Ground Zero |
Please Note: If you want to link to this page or want me to put links to your site, I am more than happy to. Please be polite, though, and ask me before you link to my site. Also, if you'd like to use any of the material I have on this site, please contact me. I am actually a pretty easy going sort and will probably say yes. |
The new immigration rules seem to have alot of people in a panic. I'm not so much paniced as angry. It seems it is not only necessary to keep us under the radar 24/7, but to assume we are all criminals and full of horrible diseases as well as alcoholics. I figure the next step will be to ban all foreigners from all bars in Korea and we'll have to pee in a cup once a month or maybe just once we get off the plane. |

I sometimes forget that there are foreigners here that work at other jobs other than teaching ESL. I hope that you find these pages useful and like to think that there are is alittle something for everyone on these pages. I've decided to give the site a face lift and add more content. Yeah, I know, I've said that before, but hopefully I can get inspired and add even more useful information for foreigners living and working here. |
