A Rhythmic Gymnastics Gymnaestrada

A Gymnaestrada is a gathering of gymnasts from various divisions, including tumblers, artistic and mostly rhythmic gymnasts, who each perform a variety of routines meeting together in a friendly display. The World Gymnaestrada is an international event held every 4 years that attracts gymnasts from all over the world. In between the international Gymnaestradas, many countries will organize their own national events on a bi-annual basis.

Invited to perform at the International Gymnaestrada, are participants of all ages and abilities, from young children to senior citizens. Routines are performed at various venues within the host country. Large group routines are known as "Mass Routines"which are comprised of hundreds of gymnasts. The Mass Routines are often performed in large stadiums where spectators can take in routines performed by gymnasts from all over the world who have the opportunity to show off their country's colours and talents. At the National Gymnaestrada held every 2 years, clubs perform their own routines, as well as a provincial routine. This also allows the National team the opportunity to rehearse its "Mass Routine" before attending the World Gymnaestrada. At the Provincial Gymnaestrada which is held every year, clubs from across the province attend this fun-filled event to perform the many routines that they have been practicing all year. This event also offers the gymnasts the opportunity to meet and make new friends outside their own Rhythmic Gymnastics club.

Red Ribbon Aesthetic Group Competition is:

  • a group sport

  • a breath taking experience
  • challenging and fun

Routines of the Red Ribbon Aesthetic Group Competition performances are like a story where the idea, music, expression and skills come together through rhythmic gymnastics. Technical and artistic value of the composition and execution are evaluated separately in the competition performances. In Canada, there are two routines completed during this competition. The free routine has compulsory elements where the execution of these elements must be unified and synchronous, performed with the same degree of difficulty in unity or in a sequence. The execution must show the group's athletic skills, flexibility, strength, speed and endurance. The creative routine offers the coach and the gymnasts the opportunity to express themselves with no limitations. Creativity, originality, expressions and variety in music are the elements that count for the majority of the groups final score. This routine allows the gymnasts to enjoy themselves during the competition and to show off some of their hidden talents, as well as the coach's creativity in the choreography of the creative routine.
