Spawn Description:

The Marble Plakat STM is a very strong fish with interesting black marble coloration. Tail spread was good at 160deg with very straight outmost ray. It is near to what is normally referred to as the Half-moon Plakat.

As for the Blue Marble Plakat STF, she is a beauty. The tail spread is at least 150deg and the ray splits are tertiary despite the short tail. The rays are straight and thick which makes her a definite choice for breeding. Hope that such traits will be passed on to the fries so that I can get some nice HM Plakat from the huge spawn.

- Blue Marble Plakat STF: Tertiary splits

Spawning Starts: 24/06/2002
Remove Female: 25/06/2002
Hatch: 26/06/2002
Free Swimming: 29/06/2002
Remove Male: 29/06/2002
Results: 500 - 800 fries

Spawn Observations:

29 June 2002:

- The fries are free-swimming and feeding on daphnia.

5 July 2002: (Mortality Rate: 0%)

- The spawn was exceptionally big, probably exceeding the initial estimate of 500 to 800.  Probably in the range of 1000 since it was a really huge spawn.

- Feeding on purely daphnias and was moved to out-door tank when they are about 1.5 weeks old.

- all fries surviving well with almost zero mortality rate.

- From observation, some of the fries could be light-color based which looks like the mother. So will be expecting some cellophanes in the spawn.

- Double tails are almost observed in the spawn despite both the parents being ST.

20 July 2002: (Mortality Rate: 0%)

- The spawn was introduced to the 5 ft out-door grow-out tank that was newly purchased.

- all fries at about 8mm.

30 July: (Mortality 100%)

- The spawn contacted white-spot and was left un-treated which lead to the eventual wipe out of the whole spawn.

Conclusion (30 July 2002)

Total Failure. Lesson learnt is that daphnias could be the cause of the virus attack. The fries were feeding very extensively on pure daphnia diet.

A second attempt with the same pair underway. But male is getting old and probably not capable of another spawn.
