5-Day Flinders Tour Report.

Monday September 25:
With 31 passengers on board, six Members and 25 c/o Eureka Tours, all present by 7.05am we departed early and travelled to Tarlee for our morning coffee/tea and comfort stop. Then had a quick stop at Peterborough to walk through the Main Street before travelling to Orroroo for our Lunch stop at the Hotel. Travelled via Carrieton to Hawker for a look at the “Wilpena Panorama” painting and a browse through the township. Then travelled to the Wilpena Pound Resort arriving there at 4.00 pm. After settling in and refreshing we had a 3-course dinner at the resort’s “Captain Starlight” Restaurant at 6.15 pm. All were very tired after getting up so early but a day well enjoyed by all.

Tuesday September 26:
After an all-you-can-eat breakfast at 7.30 am half went on the 4-hour 4-wheel drive while the others enjoyed the resort and it’s many walking trails. After a buy-your-own lunch at the resort the second half went on the 4-wheel drive tour. This 4-wheel-drive tour is something not to be missed, as the views are spectacular and the skills of the drivers outstanding even driving through creek beds. Dinner was again at the resort’s restaurant.

Wednesday September 27:
After another all-you-can-eat breakfast at 7.30 am we departed at 8.30 am for our 200 km journey to Arkaroola. This entire distance is on unsealed and very dry and dusty roads. Arriving there by 1.00 pm we had a sandwich lunch before departing on the “Ridge-top” 4-wheel drive tour. This is another tour not to be missed as it goes entirely over the tops of the mountains with spectacular views and some scary roads. Dinner was at the complex’s restaurant at 6.15 pm.

Thursday September 28:
An all-you-can-eat breakfast was enjoyed again 7.30 am and we departed Arkaroola at 8.30 am for another very dusty day on unsealed roads. Travelled to Blinman and had lunch at the “Wild Lime Café & Gallery”. As the weather has been so dry this winter, no wildflowers could be seen anywhere. Just dust and very dry country. Travelled on to Hawker for our last night’s stay. Thankfully part of this last bit was on sealed roads much appreciated by all. Dinner was in the Hawker Motel dining room.

Friday September 29:
Again an all-you-can eat breakfast was enjoyed before travelling to the Kanyaka homestead ruins for a look around. Then on to Quorn for morning coffee/tea and a look though the township. Continued on through Wilmington, Melrose and Wirrabara to Stone Hut for Lunch at the bakery. Continued on through the Clare Valley and Gawler arriving in Adelaide by 4.00 pm.  An enjoyable trip with a total of 1600 km covered.
