Where do you feel you gain more creativity an as actor; smaller indie films such as The Chester Story, or larger studio films? Definitely indies are my favs since the parts are much more fleshed out which allows the actor to take more risks. I'm not a star and probably wouldn't get a shot at a role of Chippy if it were a blockbuster. I amagine Minnie Driver in my role somehow! I've found that the directors and actors are there because they relaly want to be there instead of needing a new car, etc!
What has been your most challenging role to date? I recently finished a play, Proof, at St. Louis Rep and The Allience Theatre and loved playing Claire, the somewhat controlling sister. I have trouble playing the mean or unlikeable character therefore I tried to play her sweet and it backfired. I learned to trust my director and listen to that inner voice.
Who did you form close bonds with on-set during production? I absolutely pray at Becca's church after actually rehearsing a scene before shooting it, unlike in a big budget film. Also Andi and Teri and I have become really good friends that I like to keep in touch with. We had a blast working on a script we just loved!
What are you currently working on? I just shot a pilot with Andi Mac Dowell called Jo but wonder if it will be picked up at CBS after all. Great script and director, but we'll see. |
