Staff, students, and parents were part of the team that designed, developed, and implemented the school's mission: to empower students to meet standards of excellence which foster intellectual curiosity and ready them to be responsible, productive, employable citizens in a culturally diverse society.
Unique within the Elk Grove Unified School District, T.R. Smedberg Middle School and Sheldon High School operate on an identical 4x4 bell schedule. Students take four classes each term, eight for an academic year, allowing students to earn 80 additional units beyond what students would earn in a traditional setting.
The academies and major programs offered at Sheldon High School provide middle school and high school students an opportunity to accelerate and focus their learning within these academic areas at an earlier stage of their academic career.
In addition, we offer a variety of majors, including communications, fine arts, human services, kinesiology, science, and technology.
To ensure program effectiveness and increase student academic achievement, the assessment coordinator at T.R. Smedberg Middle School and Sheldon High School will complete a three-year internal assessment and evaluation of our block schedule and 7-12 articulation process. The commmittee overseeing this assessment is comprised of parents, teachers, students, and administrators.
Reading is a particular academic focus throughout the curriculum at Smedberg/Sheldon. Our teachers are studying and using various instructional methods to improve our students' reading comprehension and fluency.
