In a small alcove off the main library, the soft glow of a fire catches your eye. Curious, you step forward to investigate.

"Are you here to find a companion?"

The soft voice comes from just in front of the fire, where a pale blue creature with huge ears and feathered wings is sprawled, an open book in front of him, his tail waving idly in the air, the tri-colored fur at the tip exaggerating the movements slightly.

You blink, surely this creature couldn't speak, it didn't look like anything more than the local form of a flitter.

"Well?" The creature looks up at you with its head tilted to one side curiously.

"Ah... what do you mean by 'companion'?"

"I mean just that," the creature grins, ears flicking, "My kind, the Chanis, choose to be with someone, and we won't stick around if we don't think we're wanted."

"Can you all talk?"

"Of course we can! We sometimes tell others our true name, too. Other times we let other people name us, it all depends upon our personality." He nods slightly, "I'm Skycaller. Currently the one guarding these eggs." His tail flicks, indicating a large basin to one side of him, where a clutch of eggs rest in warm sand. "Feel free to choose one if you wish, but no more than three, please. Any more than that and you'll have trouble keeping an eye on all of them."

Skycaller watches as you kneel next to the basin and reach in for one of the eggs.

"Oh, and somewhere in there should be several hidden clutches, I'm not quite sure of the number, though.."

With a nod, you look back at the basin, and choose to reach for one of the eggs.
If you take a Chanis from here, please provide a link back so that others can find a companion as well. Naming conventions are given on the page with the image, but keep in mind that those are only suggestions. Also, you can have either the Chanis choosing to tell its companion its name (like a dragon at impression) or you can have the companion name the Chanis.

If an agency owner doesn't object, the Chanis can be turned into candidates, but since they're generally small in size (none of them get to be over 3 feet), I would suggest not sending them in for huge dragons.
