She had come slinking in during the night, welcomed quietly by all who saw her. The Clan knew that she was not a part of their gathering, not yet at least, so therefore she had to be one of the half-wild loners that still lived on various planets. And she was heavy with eggs. Yikaeri led her to the sands, urging her to be at ease, to speak both her name and the name of her mate. "I am Sestrel'eleb. My mate called himself Akkorlest." Sestrel stretched out upon the sands, arranging and rearranging the rainbow mounds as she saw fit, "He was a Summer Night." "Your clutch will have Seasons, then." Sestrel nodded calmly, not looking up from her work, "Yes." "The tradition of this Clan is to allow others to come and attempt to bond with the hatchlings. Will you allow this?" The answer came slowly, after much thought, but eventually Sestrel rumbled her consent, "My clutch will be small." Yikaeri nodded. That was common for the half-wild Myrsilkains, "How many bonders do you wish to stand?" "Five. No more." "It will be arranged, Sestrel." __________________________________________________________________________________ Sestrel looked on in quiet wonder, as several female Earths slipped into the sands, and began to mold one wall into a cup-like depression, several feet off the sand, and nearly eight feet back into the rock. As she craned her neck to see, the females nudged the rock with their powers, widening the cutout to be almost a perfect circle, with the 'floor' concave, like a nest. Next, she watched in puzzlement as soft materials were brought in, to line the hollow cup, and fine, crystaline white sand was poured in by several humans, until the hollow was filled to the brim. And then came the strangest sight she had ever seen. A tiny little fuzzball of a creature - did they consider that thing a dragon? it was barely as large as one of her paws! and so fuzzy! - waddled out onto the sands, and she saw why the Earths had created the "minisands" so close to the entrance - to make it a swifter, easier journey for the female and any potential candidates that would come. As she watched, one of the Earth dragonesses leaned over and swiftly crafted a ramp up to the new sands, then inclined her head as the female... fuzzball... thanked her in soft words, then climbed up into the new sands, swiftly making herself comfortable. Sestrel determined that - later, once the little female had laid her eggs - she was going to go and see who - and what - this creature was. Her curiosity was peaked as it had never been before. |
