AI / Uploads: Which Will Arrive First?

I think we can be fairly confident about the following sequence of events (we're currently at stage 1):

1. low-level AIs (expert systems, factory robotics, design, decision making, etc)
2. either one of the following:
   1. cognitive AIs able to reason like a human (with common sense)
   2. sentient AIs (have human-like emotions)
3. cognitive AI being able to solve virtually all problems
4. uploaded humans
