Hi, I'm Mooch

There's a lot of things I don't like.  Like being picked up, combed, or brushed.  I don't like the dark, the garbage truck, thunder storms, or being left alone.  But I do love my family, well, all except Sam, that is.  He's a pain in the you-know-where.  I love getting my head and ears scratched, playing games, and my big purple dinosaur.

Here I am all prettied up with my Christmas bandana.  I like being prettied up, I just don't like getting there.  Okay, so I know mats are bad things and I know I have to be brushed and combed to keep from getting them, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Nothing like a romp in a bunch of fallen leave.  Oh, what fun.  Every now and then you just have to sit down and take a brake.

Going wading in Lake Michigan is pretty neat.  A nice way to cool off on a hot day.  Don't like to go out any further than this.  Those waves can get pretty big.  They kind'a scare me.

Mooch was almost 3 years old when he developed allergies.  Before that, he liked being brushed and combed and wasn't grumpy about anything.  It took about 10 months to get his allergies under control.  During that time, his skin was very sensitive, he itched terribly when he wasn't on cortisone and developed many open sores on his skin.  Today, his allergies only flare up occasionally, and are easily treated with Benadryl, but this little guy has the memory of an elephant.  I believe he still remembers is very tender skin and is afraid that combing and brushing is going to hurt.  I have learned to be very patient with him during grooming sessions.  This is helping.  He is tolerating these sessions better and better all the time.

Please say a little prayer for Mooch and send good thoughts his way. She turned 13 years old in July 2004 and was diagnosed with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) and Pumonary Disease in September 2004.

UPDATE:

Our beloved Mooch lost his battle with CHF on May 31, 2005.

Thanks to all prayed for him and sent good thought his way.

All puppies and kittens require patience and training if they are to become the best possible pets they can be.  Even then, it is impossible to foresee all the problems that may arise.  When they do, remember your commitment, and treat those problems with love and compassion.
