"SASSY"
This is Sassy, a geriatric rescue from the OKC Shelter.
This is the day she arrived when she was
suffering from sarcoptic mange, dehydration, and was
very underweight. She was probably only a day or two
from death. She also has luxating patellas with
arthritis and appears to have had an old injury to the
front leg and shoulder assembly. At this point she
stood with her feet spread very far apart and would
fall down repeatedly.

Here she is a couple of months later. Coat is
returning, she is in good weight and hydration.
This is her normal stance due to her structural, past
injury and arthritis problems but she is able to
motor around at a pretty good clip and is able to
hold her own with Sierra Silky and Lacey Yorkie.

Sassy may have a number of physical problems but she
is a happy determined little soul with a mind of her
own and a mouth to match.

This is now October, about 5 months after she was rescued.
She has come a very long way but she still suffers from
repeated skin staph infections. Sure didn't take long for
her to get used to sleeping on the bed. ;-))

March, 2000. 10 months, countless remedies, and 3 antibiotics
later, her skin is clear for the first time since she has been here.
This is a very rare photo of her face as she is very
camera shy. For scale, this is a small #100 kennel.

Sassy is a living inspiration for maintaining hope,
joy, and optimism in the face of adversity.

My sincerest Thank You to all of you that have offered
suggestions, support, prayers and just plain love on her behalf!!

UPDATE - Sassy held on happily for 3 1/2 years after being rescued.
Near Thanksgiving, 2002, When she could hold on no longer, I was forced to release her to the Bridge.
Her vet believed her to be around 17
