ASTRONOMY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

"Why did not somebody teach me the constellations,

and make me at home in the starry heavens, which are always overhead,

and which I don't know to this day?"

Thomas Carlyle

"The heavens proclaim the Glory of God: the skies proclaim the work of His hands." Psalm 19:1

"Maybe it was the C in science on the last report card. Or the note from the Scout leader about the astronomy merit badge. Or maybe it was hearing the dreaded proclamation: 'I'm bored. There's nothing to do!' It may sound a little corny in this age of computer games and flashy action movies, but have you thought about astronomy as a family activity?

If your kids are old enough to tell a robin from a blue jay, they are old enough to tell Mars from Jupiter and the Big Dipper from Leo. Why not introduce your family to the splendor of the night sky? Who knows--it could be the start of a lifetime of learning about the cosmos.

The beauty of 'doing astronomy' is that it can be simple. At its most basic level, it doesn't require you to do anything more than look up and enjoy! Best of all, it doesn't have to be expensive."

"O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above in the heavens,
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
what is man that you are mindful of him
the son of man that you care for him?"
Psalm 8:1,3,4

The following outline is a site map. Once I started this site about astronomy, I decided to include anything else that could help homeschoolers or that any one might enjoy.

Astronomy

Classical Music

My Home Page

I have had so much fun writing the above pages that I decided to add pages on other things that interest me. Look for recipes, pages that celebrate the holidays, pages about good books and good music. I have also explained why does this former public school teacher care so much about homeschooling.

Holiday Pages

  • St. Patrick's Day

  • Easter

  • The Fourth of July

  • Thanksgiving

  • Christmas

  • A Few of My Favorite Things

  • Awards

  • Web Rings

I belong to homeschool webrings, astronomy webrings, classical music webrings, homeschool webrings, Christian webrings, holiday webrings, and recipe webrings. Eventually I may have to split this page up! Webrings are a good way to surf the net on specific topics. Check these rings. I am sure you will find some things you will enjoy.
