Time to spare, anyone ? A few lines from nowhere to nowhere. Stephane MOT |
A FEW LINES ABOUT... ... "Old Boy" (Park Chang-Wook) ... "The Fortress of Solitude" (Jonathan Lethem) LU et approuVU (in French) |
Old Boy (Park Chang-Wook) ***** OLD BOY, NEW MAN Bad luck for Park Chang-Wook : the last movie I watched before his "Old Boy" was Kubrick's "Dr Strangelove". For the Gazillionth time, I enjoyed the Master's Masterpiece and marveled at his craft. What kind of movie could possibly impress you after this ?... "Old Boy" has this power. And Park is a Master. You're all the more smashed by his power than you can feel he's limiting it, not overusing it, not making a show of it (sorry Tarantino, you don't play in the same league as this Master). In total control of the game. A dark and witty shining. SM20041030 back to top |

Come and fly away |
The fortress of solitude (Jonathan Lethem) *** Dirty Bvd. Paul Auster meet Spike Lee. Crumb meet The Lord Of The Ring. The Supremes meet Eno. Dylan meet Gus. You may pass safely by the stoops and avoid the yokes. You may look up the sky and Marvel at Aeroman. Your story and your signature may end up under or over Dose's. But you never grow up. You either become an eternal adolescent detainee (do not pass go to the college - collect $ 200 other ways) or the shadow of an adult pretending to be amphibian but unable to breathe far away from Brooklin. Jonathan Lethem's walk on the wild side of the pavement echoes Lou Reed's NYC : "at the count ot three - I hope I can disappear - and fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard".
