| A brief history of the site |
| 2003 : the baby steps - a portal to go The website is launched as an uncensored, egotistic, borgesian and kindo bilingual "personal portal" / "terrain de je". Strangely enough, visitors start coming from all 6 continents. There are two "homes" but all my topics of interests are meant to become entry points, leading to a huge dispersion for the traffic, of which about 5% is monitored (first counters implemented months after launch). 2004H1 : more flesh on the backbone Blogules are becoming more popular as the US presidential campaign is raging (English takes over French and pages tend to get fatter by the day). If not always healthy the debate is quite intense and fuels various fora in France and the US. About 15% of the traffic is monitored. 2004H2 : full speed towards November the 2nd Busy little bee gets some buzz from mainstream medias in the US. But the DYI blogging system shows its limits and traffic cause many shutdowns of the website. I consider switching for Blogger, balk and eventually go for it after the elections (starting with the mot-bile blog). About 25% of the traffic is monitored. 2005H1 : a sound system ? Three blogs are now supporting the original hub, each one at its pace. stephanemot.com takes 61.3% of the traffic, leaving 19.2% to my French blogules, 13.1% to mot-bile and 6.5% to my English blogules (less debates on the US side : George is here to stay). If the bulk of the mot-bile fans prefer the blog to the portal (cogito, but ergonomy's not my middle name), old blogules remain quite popular. Since they're hosting the blogules headlines, home pages take a bigger slice of the global humble / crumble pie. Soccer pages are getting popular as more people discover US and Korean soccer. In the meanwhile, Uqbar and the dynamics of Tlon are finding their way in a maze of over 60 pages. About 33% of the global traffic is monitored and since feb the 15th, I can locate more or less precisely about half of these visitors (details on this very page). 2005H2 : cruisin' At last, France Football launch their website. Bonus : they provide blogs. So footlog, the fourth blog supporting this personal portal, is now spilling a few blogules in French about soccer and the vissicitudes of PSG supportership. Maintaining the site can be demanding but also rewarding : the number of countries of origin for my visitors passes the 100 mark (regions : over 500 - cities : over 3,000 - visitors : over 50,000). Countries, regions and cities of the visitors are listed for each continent : Africa & Middle East, Americas, Asia & Oceania and Europe. 2006H1 : speeding up Spaceship one is victim of the success of its spin offs (the fact is I efficiently dissuaded visitors from using the main site to browse my blogules) - yet traffic keeps growing, only focusing on specific content. Soccer pages enjoy a strong WC'06 effect and blogules definitely suffer from the stalling in international wrestling (which doesn't mean things are improving : I just can't keep repeating myself). On the other hand, they remain popular (a French blog provider even launched a blogule.com website!). Keeping all those blogs alive takes time and I have to refuse many invitations to join other editors. I do accept one, though, from CNET France, starting with World Cup 2006 : this new blog devoted to new technos represents a French sidekick to mot-bile. 2006H2 : consolidation Major milestones : over 100,000 visitors, over 150 countries of origin. Since Bush's true nature gets revealed to a broader audience (thank the Dems for winning that election), I don't need to rant as often as I used to. Luckily enough, French prez elections give me another opportunity of virtual anger management. One year old footlog already claims over 15,000 visitors. 2007H1 : working on it... at my pace Blogger eventually adds some basic features to its old platform (ie labels). |
