Episode 1: The Day the Moon and Sixteen Stars Align
Episode one starts out with an old man telling a story to his granddaughter. About the tennyo and her hagoromo, how a man found it, and hid it from her, without it, she couldn't return to heaven, so was forced to stay on earth, and she tearfully became his wife. The young girl asks if she loved him, and if she ever got her robe back and went to the heavens, but she got the simple reply of "I don't really know.."
"When the 16 stars and moons align, your moment of destiny shall be at hand. All you shall meet is blood, anger and sorrow, and there will be destruction of your balance with the world. You shall then decide, under the rule of a dark star what you choose to do with yourself. Whether you choose to follow light, or darkness will depend upon your own will to survive." Such is the prophecy of a fortune teller to our heroine, Aya Mikage, who, on the day before her 16th birthday visits.
Enter a karaoke bar, where a group of highschool students are hanging out. Aya is complaining about her fortune being read, partially afraid if these sorts of thing are true. We also meet Aya's twin brother Aki [who is so sexy! XD] who adds that the woman said she would come across a lifesaving encounter. Then they make fun of poor Aya for not having her boyfriend in her 16 years of life. Then Aya gets on up to karaoke, calling herself the singing queen of Sarashina Highschool, which is.. just a nickname given to her by... herself. >>;
Now the teens are walking over a bridge above a busy street, chatting over things. Their friends suggest they go karaokeing the next day for the twins 16th birthday, when they hear a scream of a woman, seems that a thug has stolen her purse. Aya immediately chases after him, and tackles him. The purse goes flying and Aya dives for it. Unfortunately she dives right off the bridge, and starts to fall. As she's falling, she starts seeing all these wacky images and strange symbols. Suddenly, she lands softly on her feet, seemingly to have floated.
But uh-oh, here comes a car! Luck is on her side much when she gets tackled and saved by a not-so-random passerby. Red haired, and wearing sunglasses. She's perfectly fine, Aki's angry at her actions, and before she can thank her mysterious savior, he's gone.
That night, Aya's layin' on her bed thinking about the events of that day, and she gets visited by Aki, who she accidentally clobbers beforehand. >>; Aya explains how she had a rush today, and how she sort of liked it, because she lives the same life every day, with the same events. Like any other person, she doesn't stand out. Aki replies that he had a different rush, that she could have died, and that's how easy your everyday life can just fall apart. And how they're lucky enough to to just have a future [:: weep :: Aki, you're so cool!]
Then he mentions that tomorrow is their birthday, and Aya better have gotten him something, she says the same, and 'accidentally' forgets she holds a barbell in her hand as she goes to punch Aki on the head. ^^;
When they go out for dinner, their father explains that they're to come straight home the next day, because their grandfather was going to do something for them for their birthday. Aya tries to make him change his mind, because them and their friends had planned on going karaokeing that day, but they can't seem to talk him out of it.
So they apologize to their friends [who think it's strange that their grandfather would be giving them a party at their age] and leave after school in a cab to get to their grandfathers house. Aya recalls the giant pine tree on the grounds that she climbed when she was little, Aki seems to have no interest in what Aya's saying, but rather in her showing good behavior when they get there, and she wonders if he's still mad about what happened yesterday. They have a small argument [awww sibling rivalry], but it's stopped short when they see a bunch of cars pull into the area. It seems to be their entire family.
They go inside and greet their grandfather, and he brings them to a room. In the room is a large table, and sitting all around them is the rest of the family. Meanwhile, we see there are surveillance cameras in the room, and people with guns and such are ordered to stand around the house. The twins take a seat, and a mysterious man brings in a box, leaving it in front of the two. Aya notices the guy as the same guy who saved her from the car the day before! But when she stands to possibly talk to him, she's asked to sit back down again, and to open the present.
Aya reaches to open the box, but a strange feeling comes over her, her heart starts racing and she seems very nervous to open the box. So Aki, who takes note of something being wrong with Aya, insists he opens it, and he does just that. When he does so, all that's laying in there is a crumpled, seemingly old hand. Aya gasps and once again she starts to see strange images and symbols in her head. Something strange starts to happen to Aya, and she's surrounded by a strange light, her eyes open, and instead of the usual blue, they're a strange yellow color, and the hand explodes. The surveillance cameras go out, and the people use a backup.
Everything stops, and Aya looks like she's back to normal. "What.. what did I just do.. Aki?" But when she looks to Aki, something starts to happen to him too, he has his arms wrapped around himself and is shaking, and suddenly, wounds start to appear all over him, and start to bleed. Aki then proceeds to keel over off of his chair and onto the floor, unconscious. Aya quickly runs to his side, and starts screaming for her family to call an ambulance, and that Aki was going to die if they didn't. Her grandfather calmly says that Aki isn't going to die, and that actually he's a precious heir to the Mikage family and they can't just let him die.
Then he adds that she get away from him, because she's the one who is going to die, and the words from the fortune teller run through Aya's mind. "All you shall meet is blood, anger and sorrow, when the 16 stars and moons align, your moment of destiny shall be at hand."
