 AFGHANISTAN & THE GREAT GAME

We begin the project with a study of the Afghanistan issue. Afghanistan has just been the venue of the first major war of the new century, a war which is supposed to shape the course of events for the years to come. To time wise narrate the course of events:

a) America gets attacked by terrorists. These people of shadows have no identity and no country or group claims responsibility for the attack on WTC. Hundreds of innocent people die.

b) The USA blames a group called Al-Qaida composed of former US Allies which were trained by US forces to fight the Russians in the Aghan War. Al-Qaida is led by an ICI trained commando named Osama bin Laden, the groups denies having any hand behind the attack, however they do not condemn it and call it a nature's way of taking revenge from USA.

c) The government of Afghanistan led by a group called Taliban are told by USA to hand over Osama bin Laden.

d) The Afghan government asks for proof from the USA against USA and agrees to hold a trail of him in Afghanistan. They refuse to hand over Osama bin Laden to USA without proof.

e) The US President decides to take justice to Afghanistan and attacks the country.

f) The world gets divided into two halves, the governments of most countries form a coalition against Afghanistan, however Muslims people all around the world show their sympathies and support to the Afghanistan government of Taliban.

g) The USA coalition supports the forces of a war lord called Abdur Rashid Dostum against the Taliban.

h) The Taliban governments are attacked by B-52 bombers, clusters bombs are droped and tomahawk missiles are fired to smoke the Taliban out of the caves. Millions of Taliban soldiers belonging to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudia Arabia and all over the Muslim world are killed by the bombings, only 6 US soldiers die. The Taliban lose the war.

i) An interim government is formed of which Hamid Karzai is given the charge. An interim government is made to 'reform' the country. The US and UN take charge of two major cities.

j) The Taliban soldiers and leaders are taken to Camp X-Ray in Cuba for interrogation.

Now this was the course of events which we all saw during the recent past. In this project we shall study these course of events. The questions we aim at reaching a conclusion at are followings:

1) Why was the USA attacked?

2) Who were the Taliban and who were the other parties in Afghanistan?

3) Who were the Al-Qaida?

4) What were the effects of the war on Afghanistan?

5) How is the present government of Afghanistan?

6) What lies in the future for Afghanistan?

In our study we will rely upon articles written by intellectuals, historian, critics like Naom Chomsky, Samuel Hunigton, Ahmad Rashid, AnuradhtiRoy, Eqbal Ahmad, Pervez Hoodbhoy etc.
