 ON HISTORY

History makes us understand certain races, tribes or nationalities.
Distorted history give rise to wrong conceptions about certain groups of
people in the world. This is the very reason why countries in Africa and
asia often receive bad publicity. This is because the history of those
countries was not fairly presented or it was simply omitted by those
foreigners who chose to write about these countries. The history was not
written for the readership of the third world countries but was written for
foreign readers.

This history was often biased and was written for the purposes of
encouraging the citizens of those foreign writers to make such decisions as
colonizing or occupation of certain territories. For instance Africa was
referred to as a dark continent, and the inhabitants were referred to as
barbarians and uncivilized. They were regarded as people who were incapable
of running their own affairs.  These historical biases have far reaching
effects. Today some people from the developed countries still make decisions
on (third world countries) based on this mental frame they developed after
many years of consuming distorted and biased history about the third world.

This creates hostilities among nations. So this project will allow our
youths to study the histories of certain peoples and try to highlight the
distortions and biases.

I like History because it helps me to know all about the events which occurred in the past and the origin of my country Zimbabwe which is in Africa, that is and of other foreign countries like the USA [United States of America], China, Britain and many more. In other words all African, European, and Austrian, Asian’s origins.

I like History because it helps me to know what happened in the past. It teaches me how my ancestors surrendered our country to the settlers.  Not only how Zimbabwe was colonized, but other countries like Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia.

I like history because it’s a subject, which tells more about our country and the origin of many things such as how Zimbabwe was colonized by white settlers. It also tells about how people of the past live and what they wear, eat and how they evolve up to what we are now. History also tells about other countries.

When I was a child, my mom was an executive producer for a youth current affairs TV show in Canada called "What's New?".  She did a story on the history of Israel and the occupied territories - she actually went through the migration patterns, the politics, and the land claims. That story was not allowed to be broadcast for fear of upsetting the Jewish population.  That was my first experience with censorship and the huge force surrounding propaganda, and the politics that feed it.  History is written by the victors, after all.
