STAR WARS and DINOSAURS

Tim, Dan, John and Anna made a trip to Lake St Clair on July 30th.  It was Anna’s first trip to Canada and her first experience fishing out of the Starcraft.  Anna caught on quickly and managed to catch the first and most of the fish on all the spots.  The sand bar, weed stake and Killpecker were the best spots.  The smallies were a bit larger than the bluegills she was used to catching so she was hesitant to hold them up.  But, with a little coaching from Dad, she managed to get her catches in a lot of pictures.

Heavy joined them for a couple of days and guided John on an adventurous day on the lake and backwater river areas.  John really improved his fishing skills, caught some nice fish and had a lot of fun.  Heavy enjoyed it as it reminded him of fishing with his two boys when they were John’s age.

The hot weather kept us inside the Monroe house in the afternoon and evenings.  We were able to watch two Jurassic Park movies and caught “Star Wars Attack of the Clones” on TV.  John amazed Tim with his knowledge of all things Star Wars.  He gave a running commentary of characters, plots and history of the various episodes.  Anna brought out her drawing pencils and created some scenes from the Johnson River.  A good time was had by all.

Tim, Dan and I went to Lake St. Clair for a few days of smallmouth fishing for 2.5 days the second week in October.  The weather was overcast with temps in the 50-60’s.  The water was 55 degrees.  There was little wind all three days which made it hard to cover any water by drift fishing.  The first day and a half we only caught a handful of fish each day.  On Thursday we located some good size smallmouth on the weed edges at the Weed Stake and the Sand Bar.  We caught about 30; the best smallie was 4 lb. 12 oz.
