General Questions about DK/Jello/AT?
Check out http://www.alternativetentacles.com/faq.php?sd=4W8Ybsxh9mWDOj0Sm1n

I got this e-mail, hopefully someone can help him out:

Hi, I (and about 30 other people whom I have convinced) intend to vote Eric Boucher (Jello Biafra) and Mumia Abu-Jamal as write-in candidates in the coming election. Unfortunately, in Massachusetts we need to write in the candidate's current street address (to identify _which_ Eric Boucher and _which_ Mumia Abu-Jamal is being voted for) or the ballot will be marked as invalid. We need Eric's California address (not a PO Box) and info on how Mumia can be addressed in prison (I don't even know which prison he is housed in). Can you supply this information, or advise where we can get it? Thank you very much. -- -

I can't believe how good it looks already!

August 13, 2000
I was in Philly, but it was slightly disappointing, because we just didn't have the numbers. There were police EVERYWHERE. It was a police state, plain and simple. On bikes, motorcycles, horses, cars, buses, and on every street corner. The 1st was pretty good though, but the puppet-making protesters were all detained. More on that later. For all of you on the west coast, get to LA! I personally think it will be more successsful. There's already been one banner drop, and things are going to start off nice on Monday. Look, even if you're not a big fan, I'd wager that it'd be worth your time to go see Rage Against the Machine on Monday night. They're going to play a free show with Ozomatli in the "free-speech zone" that has been designated by the city. If THAT doesn't get enough protesters to the convention, I don't know what else would. Funny, because their last album was titled "the Battle of Los Angeles".

I was thinking of making propaganda, but it's a little late to try distributing now. Besides, all you really need is a sharpie marker once you're there ;)
Also check out www.phillyimc.org and www.lostfilmfest.com
If you can, go to the film fest on wednesday. At 8 pm there's a movie showing called RAGE that supposedly details the '70s west coast punk rock scene. Very cool, and it covers the Dead Kennedys as part of it. Right after is Jello then.

July 28, 2000
I'm finally updating the whole site! Things are a mess right now, but I wanted to get something up before the RNC convention!
I urge all those who are able to go to Philadelphia next week! There is a large march on Sunday, but the best days for direct action are July 31 - August 2. August 3 will be a day of solidarity for those who are arrested. I was in D.C. for the I.M.F. protests, and I can tell you firsthand, it's the best thing you can possibly do. Just be there! By the way, JELLO BIAFRA is scheduled to be at the Lost Film Fest in Philly on Wednesday, August 2 (9PM-11PM)!! Go!!!

By later today I will put up any resources I can think of making, so come back.
In the meantime, scope out www.thepartysover.org, www.r2kphilly.org.

I'm going to start adding political stuff. I explain later, it's complicated. In the meantime, read this e-mail (if any of you are into anarchy/activism, or know someone who is, pass the info along. if not, I'll add a crash-course guide to anarchy soon, so wait. go here, here, here, or here for now as well):
Hi. My name is Otter, I'm an activist in Eugene, Oregon, and I'm
writing to help get the word out about two Eugene anarchists/activists
who are being set up for a major fall. They are being charged with ten
counts of arson, nine of which are felonies, adding up to 86 years if
convicted on everything. It might just be a shotgun attack by the DA
hoping something will stick, but they are innocent and one of the
incidents is suspicious enough to ring cointelpro bells... there was an
incendiary device supposedly found by a gasoline truck in the Whiteaker
neighborhood in Eugene, which if it had gone off would have done a huge
amount of damage and possibly killed a bunch of people. This is
obviously not something anybody in the movement would do, and may very
well be a deliberate attempt to discredit anarchism and fuel the
paranoia. We need people to know about this case. Please call Eugene
Peaceworks for more info (541)343-8548 or write to eae@efn.org (Eugene
Active Existence). We are Under Fire at this point and need all the
support we can get. Thank you!!
Otter

Dammit.
Jello Biafra Ordered To Pay Ex-Dead Kennedys Bandmates $200,000.
Jurors find that former Dead Kennedys singer failed to pay back royalties, adequately promote catalog.
Read the sonicnet story here.

- BIAFRA/MUMIA 2000 STUFF -
flyer 1flyer_2There are two flyers thus far (each about 1 MB). To download, right-click the picture and select "Save Target As..". Open with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, available at adobe.com for free. Make lots of copies!!
- F e b r u a r y 2 8 , 2 0 0 0 -
Okay, here's another flyer. This is similar in design to the first, but with color. click here. SPECIAL NOTE to High School/College STUDENTS: March 1, 2000 is the NATIONAL STUDENT and YOUTH DAY of ACTION for MUMIA ABU-JAMAL. Do your part and participate! Bring up Mumia in discussions at school, with other students and teachers. Write "Free Mumia" on any and all chalkboards/sidewalks/streets (w/ chalk). PRINT OUT FLYERS, plaster your school with them!

- F e b r u a r y 2 6 , 2 0 0 0 -
All right, I've tweaked the flyer a bit. It'll fill up more of the page now. I hope to have a few more flyers and perhaps a button design by the end of the week.

- F e b r u a r y 2 5 , 2 0 0 0 -
Jello has issued a full response to his nomination, in what is both an excellent article and e-mail. Read it here. I think I'll retool the flyer, because the margins seem a bit much. Try zooming when copying, or perhaps I'll make one for legal size paper (8.5 x 14 inches).

- F e b r u a r y 2 3 , 2 0 0 0 -
Or, if you're still having problems, try downloading it zipped. (link gone).

- F e b r u a r y 2 2 , 2 0 0 0 -
About the flyer: I recommend that you right-click the picture and select Save Target As.. This will hopefully eliminate any downloading confusion. Thanks.
Also...If were able to print it out successfully, please mail me. I need confirmed feedback.

- F e b r u a r y 2 1 , 2 0 0 0 -
click here The time is now...I have made my first Jello/Mumia flyer. It is in the PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat to view it (get it at adobe.com). It should print fine no matter what. Click the pic. I recommend that you either print it on a laser printer, or on ink jet with semi-decent paper (don't make copies from a bad print if possible-- all text must be readable). Please, make lots of copies. Take them to punk shows, or to schools, or just plaster them all around your town (bonus points if you tape one to the front doors of a newspaper company or police station). Spread the word. I've heard others have taken them to shows with some success, and have gotten band members talking. The Collective has moved to www.greens.org/jellobiafra. Go.

- J a n u a r y 2 8 , 2 0 0 0 -
Well, I've been waiting a bit, but I feel I should probably link to some Biafra 2000 pages. Here is the first one: The Campaign to Draft Jello Biafra President - This is under heavy construction and is in a 'preview' phase. Secondly, here's a brand new one: Jello Biafra for President, which is shaping up very nicely. Go Go Green Jello!

IT's OFFICIAL!

Jello has announced that he will indeed run! He has selected Mumia Abu-Jamal as his running mate (controversial "cop-killer" on death row). You MUST visit that link!

- D e c e m b e r 3 1 , 1 9 9 9 -
This could prove to be rather cool. More later.

Jello For Prez?--You bet!
As it turns out, the letter was true! Go to this campaign info page: http://www.politics1.com/greens.htm. Soon I will set up some sort of Biafra 2000 support type of thing. Keep your peepers peeled.

- D e c e m b e r 1 7 , 1 9 9 9 -
Hmm.. Check out my Jello page for an interesting note... bleh lknlkRR..;.;v!2l;kk

Truly sorry I haven't done anything here lately, I've been rather busy.. I did, however, receive these two pictures: One and Two. I thought they were cool, and perhaps someone else might want to see them. It's two pictures of a DK shirt signed by the members. I personally like the Klaus signature.

- A u g u s t 2 8 , 1 9 9 9-
Hmm. Well, the Forum is doing ok. Come on "Guests", post! Also, would you like to help me take advantage of big business? Nevermind.. screw the bloody thing.

- J u n e 2 7 , 1 9 9 9-
Okay, fine.. I take back about half of what I said on the 13th.. I supposed I was phrasing it incorrectly (More to reassure myself all was well...); anyway, read this from SF weekly.. It gives THE WHOLE STORY. While it's not as bad as the original rumors, it's not the best either. After you've read it, how about posting in the forum? Kudos to the online editor of SF weekly for showing me the story..

- J u n e 1 6 , 1 9 9 9-
NEW FORUM!! www.delphi.com/thoughtcriminal. . . Here's how it works: It's on Delphi, an excellent forum service. . You can view as a guest, or join as a member and post (recommended).. Once you log in, you'll see some topics on the left, then, well, read the messages or post your own. I've kept it relatively broad, so there's plenty to discuss, from DK and punk to books and politics.. so have fun, and please don't hesitate to post. I know a lot of you rock and have some great opinions, so here's your chance to help create a community.. Thanks.

- J u n e 1 3 , 1 9 9 9-
Some maintenance.. For the time being, there's no watermark, but apparently there will be a new one in a bit due to the Yahoo takeover of Geocities. Dang. I was just getting used to the one I forced over it instead (with a dk logo). If they shove a watermark there I'll find a way to replace it again... Also, I probably should have said this a long time ago: Remember that story at the bottom of the page? With the lawsuits? You've probably seen that elsewhere as well. From what I've gathered since then, apparently that was just a bunch of hype.. Most likely overblown by that Sonic Net Music news service thing.. They're NOT at each others throats. No one's suing. I believe there was some sort of financial error, but that has been long resolved. Don't worry, you can respect all the ex-members. I know I still do, and it will most likely stay that way. And lastly, I am considering adding a forum, especially now that we've got a real domain. Good? Bad? Tell me what you think.

- J u n e 1 1 , 1 9 9 9-
Much thanks to Wyith Incorporated.. who registered www.dead-kennedys.com and pointed it towards my page. Nice. Should be a lot easier for people to remember than that long geocities address (that'll still work though.).

- M a y 1 8 , 1 9 9 9-
I'm bored. . Not much to do, so I looked at the page and thought of something-- That geocities watermark was dumb! Here's a better one...

- M a r c h 1 8 , 1 9 9 9-
Oh well, it was bound to happen.. All the mp3s are gone.. That's life. The original goals were met.. A complete DK collection was organized.. A loss, yes, but look at what was accomplished in the last 6 months. Not bad at all.

- F e b r u a r y 2 2 , 1 9 9 9-
WITCH TRIALS! at sounds, courtesy of Conan...The weirdest of all Jello albums rounds off our nice collection well, don't ya think?

- F e b r u a r y 6 , 1 9 9 9-
More sounds, courtesy of Conan...list getting too big :) Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been really busy of late.

- D e c e m b e r 1 5 , 1 9 9 8-
Yes, that's right, even more sounds, courtesy of Conan...Added link to links. And make sure you check out this picture. Oh yeah, we're trying to get more than one person at a time in this chatroom.

- D e c e m b e r 7 , 1 9 9 8-
Added the members' real names in history... thanks Jason Depew...
Hmm.. I don't know... maybe check out the sounds page...

- N o v e m b e r 2 , 1 9 9 8 -
Hey, good news everybody! My sounds have been pulled! Hoo-rah! Who the hell turned me in?

- O c t o b e r 1 7 , 1 9 9 8 -
Thanks goes out to everyone who has visited so far. Same goes to those that signed the guestbook. Speaking of the guestbook...

If you have a problem with site, tell me what you don't like so I can fix it. I will ignore such intelligent comments like "Your page sucks," or "Your site is gay."

I realized that I messed up the first logo (one of the lines was curved). D'oh! That pack is fixed now.

What the hell? News for a band that broke up years ago? To say the least, I never saw this coming.

The ex-dk members have split from Alternative Tentacles, and Jello may have to take them to court. Basically, the other members are squabbling over underpaid royalties. Among highlights in the news reports:

"If they tried to solve the problem constructively, the whole royalty situation would have been sorted out." -- Jello Biafra

"We are sad that we had to take this action but we are still willing to work things out," -- ex-Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray said in a statement addressing the band's decision to split from the label.

Meanwhile, Biafra said he and lawyers for Alternative Tentacles are planning to make one final offer to appease bandmates who want to split from the imprint. If they decline to accept, Biafra said he has no choice but to take his former musical partners to court.

Producer and recording artist Biafra said he proposed sitting down to examine the books with a disgruntled Ray more than a year ago, but the guitarist refused.

The label's lawyers have made written offers to the guitarist offering to recalculate past royalties, even suggesting to make up any differences out of Biafra's own pocket, Biafra said.

Biafra has since leveled his own raft of charges at Ray, including the claim that the guitarist licensed the Dead Kennedys' recording of "Viva Las Vegas" for use in the film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" without ever consulting Biafra.

According to Biafra, the contract specifies individual songwriters as the owner of publishing rights to each song, and the members as equal owners of the masters, or actual sound recordings. Precisely who owns the masters may play a role in whether the material can be taken to another label for distribution.

I'll keep you posted on further developments.

I also read that Ray wanted to let Levi's use "Holiday in Cambodia" in a docker's commercial. [something about that is just so very wrong...]

Consult my Jello Biafra page for Jello-specific news.
