GHOTI HOOK KICKS OUT CHRISTIAN Following the band's decision to sell out and go to rock 'n' roll, they decided they didn't want to have Christian, one of he original band members, in the band anymore. Plus, since they had added a new member to the band, Mark, they would still have four members in the band. If you want to read what happened, Christian wrote a letter to his fans and his friends about what happened. Read the letter. The letter tells what happened in an honest, straight-forward manner. It is such a shame what the band did to him.
Ghoti Hook's third full-length album, released this summer, is entitled 'Two Years to Never' and is completely rock. Ghoti Hook the punk band is gone forever. They are now a rock band, which is not a favorable change, considering the quality of punk they produced and the lack of quality in the rock they now play. Don't get me wrong, the album suprised me and I would suggest you check it out if you like rock 'n' roll, but they have wasted most of their talent.
Ghoti Hook has added a new guitarist named Mark to the band to bolster thier sound and return to band to a quintet. But, now, the band kicked out Christian, so they have four members.
Ghoti Hook was a five-man punk band which, amazingly, only went through a couple changes in it's lineup, that of the loss of their old guitarist Conrad, the addition of his coisin, Joel and the addition of another guitarist. Joel currently plays the guitar and lead vocals. Ghoti Hook had a sweet sound to them and they ranked high among the best of punk. So, if you don't like punk, don't rule this group out because they had a unique punk sound. They defied the usual stereotype for punk; instead they played incredible guitar parts with such speed and skill that they found fans from a diverse group of fans. The reason you'd have to of classified them as punk is because they're first two albums have extremely fast guitar parts.
Ghoti Hook the punk band released two full length albums and a cover album. The first album, 'Sumo Surprise', is a great album full of an energetic punk sound. They have great music and wonderful Christian lyrics to form a perfect mix. They showed that they can be both serious and funny. Many of their lyrics either are of incredible lyrical depth or are fun and just plain weird. They displayed a cool energetic sound in songs such as "Seasons", "Shrinky Dinks", and "Super Sumo", which are all cool fun songs. Then in the song "Never", they take the serious side and show how fast life can end and how important it is to make your life right with God. 'Sumo Surprise' is a sweet album which you can listen to over and over and not tire of. If you don't have this awesome album, I wholeheartedly suggest you go out and buy it. 'Sumo Suprise', however, cannot be found in many areas, so you might want to order it from The Tooth & Nail Store or have your local music store order it for ya, because trust me, you will not want to be without this album.
With 'Banana Man', Ghoti Hook's sophmore release, this awesome band came right back with the same energetic sound that made Sumo Surprise so cool and went from there. 'Banana Man' has the same weird humor, but also takes the serious side. One of the most humorous songs of thiers on this album is "My Bike", which is a song about a guy who really liked his bike. On this album, there are several rock songs that indicate that the band it moving more towards rock. The album is still mostly punk though and is really cool. Both albums are awesome and if you don't have them you should get them.
Ghoti Hook's third release, 'Songs We Didn't Write', is a cover album of the band's cool takes on some of their favorite songs. Features covers of songs by Willie Nelson, The Cars, Violent Femmes, The Pixies, Michael W. Smith, Stavesacre, Elvis Presley and more. It is incredible! Give it a listen, you'll probably like it. I know it is has by far the best versions of 'Earth Angel' or 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll', among others, that you will ever hear.
One other thing about Ghoti is that they have an awesome live show. I have seen them in concert and they have of the best live punk shows I've ever seen. They were full of energy on stage and they rocked. After their show, I talked to Joel for like a while. He was really cool and it was evident that he really loves the Lord. If you get a chance to see Ghoti Hook live, take the oppurtunity by all means.
Ghoti Hook the rock band:
Ghoti Hook made the conscious decision to switch from punk to rock. They forsook the energy that made them the great punk band they were and are now slow rock 'n' roll. After they made this change, they released the album 'Two Years to Never'. The album isn't exactly stellar. This album appeals to people who don't like punk at all, so if you are into rock, check this out. However, if you like the old Ghoti Hook, it is likely you won't like the switch.
