The Sweet Brown Saga
Welcome to my web site!  Many hours of work have been put into the research  of these ancestors  .My gggg-grandfather,  William Brown, came from Northern Ireland in the 1700s with his brother John (who went on to Prince Edward Island) in the company of families named Palmer, Carson and Smith, the latter I expect being his in-laws as he married Margaret Ann Smith prior to leaving Ireland.  William and Margaret (Smith) Brown are my brick wall acestors.   On census data he is first listed as paying Poll Tax in Hants Co., NS for the years 1791 and 1792.  I have nothing concrete prior to this.    I am diligently searching Irish data bases.
The Brown's settled at Newport Corner, Hants Co., Nova Scotia in the 1700s.  They had a large farm and ran a roadhouse - a stop-over spot for stage coach and travellers  to overnight and freshen their horses on the trip from Kentville in the Valley to Halifax.  During the second world war, a portion of the property was expropriated by the Department of National Defence to build radar towers and base.  Today, a ggg-grandson of William and Margaret (Smith) Brown still lives on the property where the original homestead use to be.
The Sweet family came from Devonshire, England to Salem Mass., in 1630.  In 1637 John and Mary Sweet moved to Rhode Island.  In 1760 Benoni Sweet went  to Nova Scotia with the Rhode Island Planters in 1760.    Most of the Sweet information is from "The Sweet Saga" by Maribelle Smiley and Iola Young.   I hope you will benefit from the information I present here.  If you can add to it or have questions,  by all means, contact me.
