November 1 - We left Newport in mid September and got caught in a gale on the way down the coast. We were well off-shore so were in little danger but it was not a comfortable ride. We hove-to (stopped the boat with the sails) for about 10 hours outside Coos Bay. At dawn we headed in to escape the ugly motion. The only damage was a missing masthead antenna and a broken pie plate.  Fred was none the worse for wear though he did get thrown across the cabin once and showed his displeasure on my side of the bed!
We had a much more pleasant ride down to Eureka a few days later and met up with some cruising friends there (Jan & Kathy "Adelante!", Dwight & Jan "Mira", David & Betty Lou "Decade Dance"). It was fun watching Fred finally get his sea legs on the way down. I now call him "my little gimbal kitty". We ended up staying there a week longer than anticipated but it was a nice rest. We buddy boated the rest of the way with Gwen & Gary Garwood on "New Passages".
Sailing under the Golden Gate was fantastic! We called all our family members but my 12 year old niece's reaction was priceless: "Oh." We spent a couple nights in Richardson Bay and then headed over to Alameda to a (gasp!) marina. I flew out on Oct 12 for Portland to earn a few extra bucks and Rob went exploring. I was sooo jealous! He spent some time in China Camp where they were building a replica of a turn of the century Chinese shrimping junk. I made it back in time for the launching celebration though. Check out the pix!
We are now in Antioch, the self proclaimed "Gateway to the Delta". The day I arrived back (by car), it was 90 degrees! It's been gorgeous and sunny almost the entire time and we're looking forward to a winter of cool but sunny days. That'll be a nice change!
We spent the last two days installing our large New Found Metal opening por tlight above the galley. That will help tremendously while cooking! See the pix. Tomorrow we'll start on a new bimini and weather cloths for the cockpit. No rest for the wicked! ;-)
