BIOGRAPHY of Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO)

Tom is a Denver native who was a high school teacher by trade. After serving in the Colorado state legislature for 26 years, he was elected to Congress in 1998. He is presently running for his 4th term from Colorado's 6th Congressional District based at Littleton.

Tom is an advocate for lower taxes, less government and for immigration and border security reform. Tom was President of the Independence Institute, a conservative public policy research organization, from 1993 to 1998. He formed and is Chairman of the 92-member, bipartisan House Immigration Reform Caucus and is a member of the House International Relations Committee and the Resources Committee.

    Location: Contra Costa Country Club
801 Golf Course Rd., Pleasant Hill

In 1996, Jim won the first of two terms to the U.S. House of Representatives. He was one of only two members of Congress to serve on both the Commerce and Judiciary Committees, two of the most prestigious and powerful committees in the Congress. Because of his background as a prosecutor and his reputation for fairness among Republicans and Democrats alike, the House of Representatives selected Jim to be one of the managers in the historic impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. This role gave Jim worldwide recognition for his prosecutorial skills, as well as his cool demeanor during a painful episode in American history. However, as a Republican representing a heavily Democratic district, Jim’s vote of conscience on this matter caused his defeat for reelection in what became the most expensive House race in American history. In 2004 he completed work on a memoir of his early life: “Rough Edges: My Unlikely Road from Welfare to Washington,” published by Harper Collins and Regan Books.

State Senator and candidate for California Lt. Governor

During 19 years in the state legislature, State Senator Tom McClintock has become one of the most recognizable political leaders in California. When it comes to who should be California’s next Lt. Governor, voters will have a clear choice between a liberal John Garamendi and a conservative Tom McClintock.

In a recent CRP poll, Senator Tom McClintock has a 4% lead over his opponent, liberal John Garamendi. Among those voters who ALWAYS vote, McClintock leads by 11% (46% to 35%). Tom's support is also very broad. Independents favor McClintock thirty-two percent (32%) and Garamendi twenty-three percent (23%), and this group with the large number of undecided voters among them could likely make the difference.

The United Veterans' Council of Santa Clara County's 88th Annual Veterans' Day Parade

Each year since 1919, the United Veterans' Council of Santa Clara County has conducted an Armistice Day Ceremony and produced a Veterans' Day Parade with support from the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County. This year's Parade, the largest Veterans' Day Parade in Northern California, honors all those who have served, and those continuing to serve their country.

Opening Ceremony began at 11:00 AM at Plaza de Cesar Chavez on Market Street in downtown San Jose in honor of the 1918 Armistice of the "War to End All Wars". It featured the World War I reenactment group "Welcome Home Doughboys" who will present the colors.

The Grand Marshal for this year's Parade was retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Frank Kappeler. Frank was the navigator on B-25 bomber aircraft number eleven, the "Hari Carrier," during Jimmy Doolittle's 1942 raid on Tokyo as the first response to the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor.

Parade Master of Ceremony was "Officer Vic" from KSFO 560 AM Radio.

The Parade stepped off at 12:00 Noon in downtown San Jose from Delmas Street and traveled east along Santa Clara to Market Street. The Parade then proceeded south on Market, passing the reviewing stand at Park Street, opposite Plaza de Cesar Chavez, and ended at San Carlos Street
